Mercedes-Benz Malaysia teased a new EQ model; launch expected soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has recently showcased a sneak peek of the upcoming EQ model in its National Day marketing campaign, which will soon make its way to the local shores. The upcoming model is expected to be the EQS SUV, which is the lifted, SUV-bodied version of the EQS saloon.

The campaign features the upcoming car wrapped in a Merdeka-themed livery. It also showcases the AMG Line wheels of the EV. No details on the local-spec EQS SUV are available officially yet. However, we can refer to the globally available version to know the upcoming EV. 

The electric SUV is offered in three variants in the international market viz.

• EQS 450+ RWD Single electric motor
• EQS 450 4MATIC AWD dual-motor
• EQS 580 4MATIC AWD dual-motor

The EQS 450+ comes equipped with a rear-wheel drive single electric motor that produces a maximum power of 360 hp and a peak torque of 568 Nm. The EQS 450 4MATIC all-wheel drive, on the other hand, comes with two electric motors (one on each axle) delivering 360 hp and 800 Nm. The range-topping EQS 580 4MATIC also houses a dual-motor set-up, which is good for making 544 hp and 858 Nm.

In terms of battery pack, all variants of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV are identical as all are equipped with a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion pack. It offers a driving range of 660 km on the RWD variant and 613 km on the higher-end AWD versions. As for charging, it takes approximately 10 hours for 100% SoC when using the on-board 11kW AC charger. The 22 kW charger can do the same job in five hours.

In terms of equipment, the global-spec SUV features MBUX Hyperscreen, MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation, two 11.6-inch touchscreens for rear passengers, electrically adjustable seats, Trailer Maneuvering Assist, Dynamic Select modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual), Dolby Atmos sound system, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping autonomous emergency braking, intelligent park pilot package and more.
