Built with perfection, the new 5 series comes with dynamic styling. The haunches at the bumper adds a wild look to the car. Lines all over the side flowing back to the fenders is the new addition to the segment. Signature double kidney grills with chrome finish is the effect that BMW never hesitates to add in any of its luxury sedans. Lengthened bonnets, short overhangs and long wheelbase is what makes the luring center. The curved LEDs at the front as well as to the rear gives a glossy finish to the series. The new LED head lamps are bit offset from the side end of bonnet giving it a masculine look. Optical depth and L shaped design of the rear lamps, makes it the most dominant car of the segment. Exterior Measurements:

The LXBXH of the 5 series dimensioning 4907mm X 2102mm X 1462mm is ample enough to make a good road presence. The most talked ground clearance has a figure of 142 mm whereas to provide maximum comfort the wheelbase is extended to 2968 mm.

Wheels:

The 18 inch light-alloy of the 520i has a tyre dimension of 245/45 R18 for both front and rear followed by 528i with tyre dimension of 245/45 R18 at front and 275/40 R18 at the rear. On the other hand, the 17 inch alloy of the 520d has a tyre dimension of 225/55 R17 for both front and rear.

BMW has equipped the new 5 Series with ECO PRO mode, that immensely contributes to the economic factor of this luxury sedan. Auto start/stop function in the car ensures that proper utilization of fuel. The 520i gains a mileage figure of 16.12 km/l followed by 528i with 15.38 km/l whereas the 520d does it in 22.22 km/l. All thanks to some advance features such as Brake energy Regeneration, the kinetic energy created when you apply brakes gets efficiently transmitted into electrical energy which in return takes the load-off from the engine and improves mileage.

The all new 5 series comes in both petrol as well as diesel variant. The 4-cylinder petrol engine has an amalgamation of a twin scroll turbocharger with valvetronic and high precision injection giving it a power of 245 hp at 5000-6500 rpm. On the other hand the 4- cylinder twin power turbo diesel engine churns out a maximum power of 184 hp at 4000 rpm. Transmission in the 5 series allows to switch between manual and automatic mode. The 8-speed sport automatic transmission of the 520i and 528i makes it to boost an overall torque of 270 Nm at 1250 rpm and 350 Nm at 1250 rpm respectively, whereas the 8-speed automatic transmission of the 520d makes it to reach a maximum torque of 380 Nm at 1750 rpm.

Power:

TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double-VANOS and High Precision injection all in the same power house made a sufficient hike in the power. The powerful 2.0-litre Twin-power turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine of the 520i and 528i delivers a maximum power of 184 hp at 5000-6500 rpm with maximum torque of 270 Nm between 1250-4500 rpm and 245 hp at 5000-6250 rpm with maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1250-4800 rpm respectively. On the other hand the efficient 2.0-litre diesel engine of the 520d goes for 184 hp at 4000 rpm with a maximum torque of 380 Nm between 1750-2750 rpm.

Acceleration and Pickup:

Being blessed with greater power the 528i has a top speed of 250 km/h and touches 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds where as the 520i and 520d does it in 7.9 seconds. The sleek styling of the standard 520i and 520d made it to reach a top speed of 233 km/h and 231 km/h. The acceleration figures of the new 5 Series are quite impressive despite being a heavy sedan possessing unladen weight of 1700 kg.

The console at the center allows you to switch the desired driving mode, for example switch to ECO mode and you could get the pure driving pleasure at minimal wastage of fuel and if you are fond of speed then switch to sports mode. Switching to sports mode, you may find the engine more responsive and gear shift timing more precise and an alert handling. The brakes at front and rear are ventilated disc type. With double wishbone suspension at front and multi-link in the rear the ride became more stable.

Safety and Security:

Though providing a package of features BMW has not compromised with the safety of the vehicle. In order to place itself among the safest vehicles, the brand has added a couple of safety features in it namely- traction control, anti-lock braking system, driver airbag, passenger airbag, side airbag, brake assist and crash sensors both at rear and front. Central locking, smart access card entry, door ajar warning and engine immobilizer system equipped in the series adds to the security of the vehicle. To encounter sudden impacts, it is equipped with side impact beams and front impact beams. For easy driving at night, the sedan is packed with day and night rear view mirror, rear camera and automatic headlamps.
