Mercedes Benz EQS SUV

Shared with the EQE SUV and EQS sedan, the interior layout of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is high on luxury and technology. This dual-tone black and space grey interior cabin comes standard with AMG Line trim, which includes Nappa leather upholstery for the seats, brown open-pore Magnolia wood and aluminium trim inserts, and ARTICO man-made leather-wrapped multi-functional steering wheel, silver chrome inserts on the steering wheel and gearshift paddles.

Besides the 12.3-inch rectangular full-TFT instrument console behind the AMG multi-functional steering wheel and the 17.7-inch portrait-styled slanted MBUX touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console, the EQS SUV also gets an additional 12.3-inch touchscreen for the co-passenger. All these screens are a part of the high-tech, new-generation MBUX hyperscreen.

The cabin of the EQS SUV further feels more modern with turbine-style AC vents with a satin silver surround, 11.6-inch rear entertainment screens behind the front seats, 15-speaker Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos, 64-coloured ambient lighting, EQ navigation services, an air quality package, fingerprint scanner, MBUX rear tablet for controlling vehicle functions, pre-entry multi-zone automatic climate control, Mercedes-Benz sound system and wireless smartphone integration.

By its looks and stance, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV looks like an evolved version of the smaller EQE SUV, with larger dimensions and mild front and rear tweaks over the latter. The slightly toned-down stance of a crossover is complemented by futuristic-looking elements at the front, such as the digital all-LED headlamps connected by an LED light bar.

Constantly adapting the road illumination to the light conditions, these headlamps are placed on the upper edges of the large black panel radiator grille, which has a closed design with a gloss black finish and tri-star-themed design inserts. Similar to the EQE SUV, the EQS SUV also has flush-type door handles, smooth contours over the fenders, a sloping bonnet, and door-mounted rearview mirrors that make it look aerodynamic. However, the side footsteps here are illuminated, while the 22-inch glossy-looking AMG alloys come as standard. 

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV's rear profile boasts LED combination tail lamps with a curved 3D Helix design and a connected LED light bar. In addition to the 22-inch alloy wheels, the AMG Line exterior trim also adds more aggressive-looking front and rear bumpers and larger air intakes on the front bumper.

Being a sophisticated Mercedes-Benz product, the EQS SUV has the AIRMATIC air suspension as standard, which can also alter the ground clearance of the SUV depending on the drive mode selected. The EQS SUV also has rear-axle steering for improved driving appeal and drive modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual and Off-Road. The EQS SUV has a three-row arrangement with 40:20:40 seats in the second row and 50:50 seats in the third row, all of which are comfortable, though there is limited room in the third row. 

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC on sale in Malaysia has a dual-motor setup powering all of its four wheels, which claims 544 PS of maximum power and 858 Nm of maximum torque. Paired with a single-speed transmission, this dual-motor setup is assisted by a floor-mounted 107.8kWh battery, which delivers a maximum range of 615 km. This battery takes 5.5 hours for a 0-100% charge with the on-board 22kW AC charger and can be charged 10-80% SoC in 31 minutes using a 200kW DC fast charger. With an electronically restricted top speed of 210 kmph, the EQS SUV can do 0-100 kmph run in 4.6 seconds. 

The sophisticated driving assistance features in the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV are active lane-keeping assist, Distronic Plus, active steering assist, pre-safe impulse side and rear sensors for the lane departure assistant, and evasive manoeuvre support. Other standard safety features are a 360-degree parking camera, ten airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, hill assist, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV rightfully deserves the flagship luxury SUV tag with its grand road presence, meticulously luxurious and tech-laden cabin and range-topping powertrain and drive functions.
