The cabin of the Mercedes-Benz EQA feels future-ready and has no dearth of luxury and craftsmanship. It retains much of the layout and components from the GLA, which is not a bad thing considering how cool-looking this layout is.

The driver’s cockpit of the Mercedes-Benz EQA looks futuristic with the large and rich-looking MBUX multimedia screen, which comes equipped with ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice command assist and all the modern smartphone connectivity suites. The multi-textured layout of the dashboard is further complemented by the 64-colour ambient lighting spread across the dashboard, door panels, and foot well area. The propeller-like rounded AC vents further make the cabin, especially the centre console, look very attractive.

The all-black cabin of the Mercedes-Benz EQA is further enriched with features like four-way lumbar support, fully electrically adjustable front seats, and a retractable cover for the storage space in the centre console, which makes the cabin look uncluttered and clean. The cabin also comes with features like a wireless phone charger and rear AC vents.

The overall silhouette of the Mercedes-Benz EQA looks very similar to its ICE equivalent, the GLA. However, there are a host of visual tweaks, which specifically make it look like a new-age SUV from whichever angle you look at it.

Let’s start with the front, where the Mercedes-Benz EQA, like most contemporary electric vehicles, gets a fully-closed grille. However, the closed grille here gets an identity of itself with its floss black finish, accentuated well by the chrome linings and the three-pointed star in the middle. The side edges of the closed grille come attached with large all-LED headlamps, which come integrated with sleek and wide C-shaped daytime running LEDs, which look cool along with the long strip of LED on the upper edge of the closed grille.

The side profile of the Mercedes-Benz EQA looks very similar to that of the GLA SUV, though the former gets a different set of alloy wheels. Rest assured, it gets the same wheel arch mouldings, side body mouldings with chrome accents, chrome finish on the entire window surround, and smooth-looking fenders and door panels like the GLA.

At the back, the Mercedes-Benz EQA has a very different design approach as compared to the GLA. It gets a cleaner design for the boot lid, as the license plate housing has moved down on the rear bumper. The boot lid comes adorned with a sleek strip of LED which joins sleek two-part triangular LED tail lamps on the outer corners.

Like in every other modern-day EV, the Mercedes-Benz EQA also feels agile, nimble, and smooth to drive, with almost negligible NVH levels usually associated with IC engines. Apart from offering a supple ride quality, the Mercedes-Benz EQA also offers a host of comfort settings for the suspension and climate control which enhance the experience of the SUV while being seated in it.

Unlike the ICE versions of the GLA, the Mercedes-Benz EQA comes equipped with a front-mounted 140 kW electric motor, which produces 190 hp of maximum power and 370 Nm of maximum torque. Mated to a single-speed transmission with a fixed ratio, the electric motor enables the EQA to reach a top speed of 160 kmph. The Mercedes-Benz EQA also comes with a 66.5 kWh battery, which can be charged with up to 100 kW DC power supply for fast charging and claims a maximum driving range of 422 km.

Apart from the crucial safety features like front, side, curtain, and knee airbags and ABS with EBD, brake assist, and parking sensors, the Mercedes-Benz EQA is equipped with a range of advanced safety features like blind spot assist, active lane keeping assist, active brake assist, adaptive cruise control, and many more autonomous driving assistance systems.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is for new-age buyers who want a compact and affordable all-electric vehicle with a luxury badge on it. Sure, the EQA is not an affordable vehicle in the truest sense, but it gives an early-bird feeling to those who want to adopt the future of electric mobility without compromising on the modern standards of luxury.
