Hyundai Ioniq 5 Interior & Features

The futuristic essence of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is well executed in the cabin of the car as well. The entire interior of the car has extensive use of eco-friendly elements, such as eco-processed leather for the seats, headliner, and flat floor carpet, and material woven from fibers made from recycled used PET plastic bottles and textiles derived from wool and poly yarns.

The dashboard looks extremely new-age with a two-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a wide cockpit comprising of two 12.3-inch full-TFT screens, one each for the instrument console and a touchscreen infotainment system. The screen for infotainment is also the window for the number of connectivity features this car claims.

The car also gets a variety of modern features like a wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-speaker audio system with subwoofer and amplifier, powered, ventilated, and heated front seats, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and more.

Ioniq 5 Exterior

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has an edgy and futuristic design, which might look too overboard for some. Nevertheless, for a vehicle of its size, this dramatic design language of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 makes it a pure attention magnet.

At the front, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has got a robotic fascia, which comprises a wide stretched-out closed grille with headlamps on the corners. These headlamps, with their all-LED lighting and dual U-shaped daytime running LEDs, look very attractive when viewed head-on. This closed grille has a sleek and wide-looking triangular garnish just below it. The lower part of the front profile has a closed theme throughout its profile, with a silver-colored wide and beefy-looking diffuser at the bottom and hidden active air flaps in it.

The edgy design of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is carried out on the side profile as well, with the car having angular pillars and dramatic-looking angular character lines on the door panels. The rounded wheel arches of the Ioniq 5 have a swirl-like effect around it, below which the car gets a distinctive-looking 20-inch alloy wheel design with a closed aero-optimized pattern. The lower portion of the door panels also looks quite different with a trapezoidal design element characterized by horizontal lines within it.

The rear profile of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the most futuristic angle to look at it, with the car having retro-themed, slim-looking rectangular LED tail lamps present within the wide rectangular design element across the width of the boot lid. This housing bears Ioniq 5 badge in the middle and a slim LED lighting bar across the entire width. There are a lot of sharp creases on the boot lid, which give the Ioniq 5 a dramatic look. Here also, the bumper is characterized by a thick-looking diffuser at the bottom and horizontal layered creases on the lower corners.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ride & Handling

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on Hyundai’s electric global modular platform (E-GMP), which makes the cabin of the car feel very spacious and comfortable even for longer journeys. The car feels easy to drive, courtesy of the presence of a light-weighted steering and multiple drive modes. The four-wheel-drive model in the Max variant is even better.

Ioniq 5 Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has three variants on offer, each of which gets a different powertrain setup but a common one. The Lite and Plus variants are two-wheel-drive variants, which have a 170 PS/350 Nm electric motor and a 58 kWh battery which claims a range of 384 km (WLTP cycle). The Max variant has an all-wheel-drive setup with two electric motors (one on each axle), the combined power and torque output of which are 305 PS and 605 Nm respectively. The Max variant has a 72.6 kWh battery pack which claims a range of 430 km (WLTP).

While the 58 kWh battery pack takes 5 hours to charge from 0-100%, the 72.6 kWh battery pack takes 6.1 hours for the same. Both the batteries can be charged from 10-80% using a 50 kW DC fast charger in 47 minutes and a 350 kW DC fast charger in 18 minutes. The Ioniq 5 also features a vehicle 2 loading (V2L) mode of charging, using which you can charge another vehicle from the battery of the Ioniq 5. Though, the charging is painfully slow in this mode.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Braking & Safety

Packed with all the possible modern safety features, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Rear Occupant Alert, Manual Speed Limit Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor and Safe Exit Alert (SEA). It also gets seven airbags, ABS, ESC, vehicle stability management, traction control, Hill-Start Assist Control, and front and rear park assist.

Ioniq 5 Verdict

One of the most high-tech products on sale from a mainstream carmaker, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has charted new benchmarks in electric mobility with its sheer brilliance in almost every single parameter.
