New platform
The new GLC-Class underpins a new platform, which is an upgraded version of Mercedes' MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform. The architecture is designed specifically for high-riding models and brings significant weight savings with the increased use of aluminum over steel. The new underpinnings makes the GLC the most dynamic SUV from Mercedes.
Bigger in size
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC measures 4,716 mm (+60 mm) in length, 1,890 mm (same) in width, 1,640 mm (-4 mm) in height and has a wheelbase of 2,888 mm (+15 mm). The front and rear track widths have also increased by 6 mm and 23 mm, respectively. As a result, we get a more spacious cabin and cargo area. The latter has been increased to 620 litres (+70 litres) with rear seats in place.
Hybrid engine setup
The base trim of the new GLC is backed by a mild-hybrid powertrain, comprising a 2.0-litre inline-4 engine and a 48V mild-hybrid tech coupled with an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator). The engine delivers a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 320 Nm, while the ISG is good for making 23 hp and 200 Nm.
The higher trim gets a slightly more powerful 2.0-litre engine making 258 PS and 400 Nm, paired with the same ISG. The power is transmitted to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
There is also a PHEV model that pairs the same mill with an electric motor, combinedly producing 313 PS and 550 Nm. Its WLTP-rated electric range is 120 km.
