Globally revealed in June last year, the second generation Mercedes-Benz GLC has generated a lot of buzz among car enthusiasts with its sleek new look, more tech features on tap, and a full lineup of hybrid propulsion. In this article, we'll take a closer look at what to expect from the upcoming Malaysian-spec GLC SUV, while taking reference from the version offered in the global markets.
Larger dimensions
The new GLC is based on an improved version of the brand’s MHA (Modular High Architecture) architecture, which is specifically meant for high-riding models. Along with saving significantly in terms of weight, the new platform also increased the SUV’s dimensions. It now measures 4,716 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,888 mm. Compared to the predecessor, it is 60 mm longer and has a 15 mm longer wheelbase.
In addition, the SUV's track width has been increased by 6 mm at the front and 23 mm at the rear, resulting in a more spacious cabin. Moreover, the cargo area has also been expanded to accommodate 70 litres more luggage, with a total area of 620 litres.
Sleeker looks
While the new GLC mostly carries forward the clean and elegant design language of its predecessor, it looks cleaner and sleeker with a larger front grille featuring a cool 3-D star pattern and slimmer LED headlights. Towards the rear, we can find new slim LED tail lights and twin chrome exhaust tips. Additionally, the SUV rides on new wheels ranging between 18 to 20 inches. The LED High Performance headlamps may also be offered as an optional feature.
Latest tech
Inside, the upcoming GLC will be getting a major overhaul with a crisp 11.9-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment unit powered by the second-gen MBUX system. Adding to the expected substantial upgrades are a 12.3-inch driver display, wireless charging, heated front seats, 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting, MBUX Augmented Reality, a nine-speaker advanced sound system, optional head-up display, and an improved Driving Assistance Package. The latter is likely to include lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, trailer manoeuvring system, and park assistance.
