2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The lifted, SUV-bodied version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS saloon, the EQS SUV, has made its way to the Malaysian market. It underpins the brand’s dedicated electric platform called the Electric Vehicle Architecture and is offered in a sole 580 4Matic variant in Malaysia, priced at RM 699,888 (with 10% sales tax).

The Malaysian-spec Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is powered by a dual-motor setup that makes a whopping power of 544 PS and a peak torque of 858 Nm. It enables the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 210 kmph.

Paired with the motors is a 108.4 kWhlithium-ion battery pack, which offers a WLTP-claimed range of 615 km on a single charge. The latter takes five and a half hours when using a 22 kW AC onboard charger. As for fast charging, one can use a 200 kW DC unit, which provides 10-80% SoC in just 31 minutes.

The chassis of the SUV comprises a four-link axle at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. Also part of the standard kit is the AIRMATIC air suspension system that comes with continuously adjustable damping ADS+. The vehicle also comes with several driving modes - ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, INDIVIDUAL, and OFFROAD, making the SUV capable of tackling light terrain with ease.

In terms of exterior, the new Mercedes-Benz SUV features a gloss black front grille, Digital Light LED headlights, chrome faux skid plate elements, 3D helix-shaped LED rear lights, AMG Line package, flush door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and 22-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels. The SUV has an impressive drag coefficient of 0.26.

Inside, the EQS SUV comes equipped with seven seats (2-3-2 layout) and offers a generous sense of space with a luxurious and avant-garde design. Among the key interior highlights are -
