It was only yesterday that GWM Malaysia launched the all-new Ora 07 EV in the country and we couldn’t be more excited. All set to compete with the likes of BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3, the brand’s flagship electric car is offered locally in two variants.

Let us now check out the EV in detail -

The Ora 07 is offered in two variant options: the Long Range and Performance. While the former offers a front-wheel-drive configuration, the latter offers an all-wheel drivetrain.

What’s great is the fact that the Ora 07 undercuts both its rivals, the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3. Below is a detailed comparison -

As for Ora 07, the figures mentioned above are recommended retail prices which exclude on-the-road costs and include a six-year/150,000 km warranty and an eight-year/180,000 km battery and motor warranty. Also, part of the kit is a one-to-one battery replacement if the unit's health drops below 70% during the warranty period.

In terms of size, the Ora 07 is quite bigger than its competitors which gives it another badge on its coat. The table below gives a detailed comparison -

The extra length provides the passengers with greater road presence and is due to its organic Porsche-aping fastback design.

GWM Malaysia is also running an exciting deal wherein the first 300 customers will get an AC wallbox charger along with a warranty extension from six-year/150,000 km to eighth-year/180,000 km (matching the standard battery warranty).

Like the Good Cat, the Ora 07 underpins the automaker’s L.E.M.O.N platform which is a highly intelligent modular tech platform that boasts numerous advantages like lightweight, high performance, high safety, and flexibility.

Coming to the powertrain setup, the Long Range trim houses a single front motor producing a maximum power output of 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque. The Performance variant, on the other hand, gets a second motor as well that offers all-wheel drive and a total output of 408 PS and 680 Nm.

The Long Range model with its single motor is capable of completing a century sprint in 7.9 seconds and attains a top speed of 170 kmph. As for the range-topping Ora 07, the 0 to 100 kmph time is reduced to half (4.3 seconds) and delivers a higher top speed of 180 kmph.

As standard is available an 83.5 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that offers a range of 640 km and 483 km in Long Range and Performance variants respectively. The latter provides less range as it offers more power which leads to low efficiency.

Charging is supported by 11 kW of AC charging and 88 kW of DC charging; while the former takes 15 hours to fuel up the battery, the latter takes just 32 minutes to take the unit from 30 to 80% SoC.

The EV also boosts the driving experience via features with features like three regenerative braking settings, a 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load function, and five drive modes – Normal, Well-Being (dulls the throttle response to make it easier to drive), Eco, Sport, and Individual.

Like all the GWM EVs, the Ora 07 is a stunning-looking car with smooth curves but something sure about its design gives it an edge. Zuffenhausen's inspiration is visible via its round LED headlights, active rear spoiler and sloping rump, and scalloped sides. Helping the car deliver a low drag coefficient of 0.22 are its flush pop-out door handles and active grille shutter.

On the side giving the EV a premium look and feel are its frameless windows and triangular LED tail lights. Supporting the car all the way around are 18-inch wheels (Long Range) and 19-inch (Performance) with a striking oval design and Michelin Pilot Sport EV rubbers.

What you see above are red brake calipers that are exclusive to the range-topping Performance variant.

The Ora 07 has a welcoming cabin that features a slim center console, a hooded instrument console, and chunky bucket seats. Also, part of the car’s standard feature kit is a panoramic glass roof with the roof and rear windscreen made out of a single uninterrupted piece of glass.

Taking care of the EV’s infotainment needs is a 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It also features physical controls along with three vertically-arranged air-con knobs. One can also see a cup holder that sits ahead of the Qi wireless charging slot.

Making sure the car offers a comfortable cocoon is its Super I Space function that engages the air con function and the seat ventilation & massagers, working towards helping occupants relax.

The EV is loaded with smart features that make it a perfect modern-day car that runs on electricity. Part of its specs kit are features like -

• Power-adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions
• Ambient lighting (replete with a rhythm mode that follows the music you’re playing)
• An 11-speaker Infinity sound system
• A 360-degree camera system
• A hands-free powered boot lid

One of the best things about the Ora 07 is the fact that it comes fully equipped with driver-assisting aids including -

• Autonomous emergency braking
• Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go
• Lane centering assist
• An Intelligent Evade system (giving more space in the lane for large vehicles such as lorries)
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Rear cross-traffic alert with auto brake
• Traffic sign recognition
• Park Assist
• Auto high beam

Customers can choose the Ora 07 in three colour tones namely, white, purple, and grey. As for the cabin upholstery, faux leather in black and brown are available in Long Range and Performance variants respectively.
