Sym Sport Rider 125i

While many two-wheeler manufacturers try to make their respective mopeds slim and sleek, SYM has tried to make the Sport Rider 125i look a bit more muscular than the rest of the breed. While it looks sharp, the wide bodywork makes it look as bulky and whole as a proper 125cc scooter.

The frontal styling of the SYM Sport Rider 125i is dominated by a compact but wide front fairing below the handlebar cowl, which comes integrated with angular lights which are combinations of LED pilot lamps and turn indicators. The main headlamp is placed on the handlebar cowl above, which too is big enough to accentuate the width of the scooter in a better way.

The bottom edges of the front apron come attached with wide panels with pointy edges which do manage to cover a majority of the foot-well area, by extending all the way down towards the engine. The exposed tubular frame, finished in a contrasting color, looks sporty and in conjunction with the sleek side body panels placed below the long seat as well as the rear footrest holder.

The engine too is packed in a compact form with minimal gaping in between, and along with the exhaust pipe, has been given an all-black treatment. The silver finish for the exhaust tip, as well as golden finish for the gas canister for the rear shocks, adds to the colorful design of the SYM Sport Rider 125i.

The long and sleek side body panels rise upward towards the angular tail lamp assembly, which is accompanied with a compact single piece pillion grab rail. The instrument console of the SYM Sport Rider 125i, while not being too flashy, is modern enough with its part digital layout, comprising of a small LCD panel which displays speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge and clock readings, and is accompanied with a large analog tachometer.

It’s not just the bodywork of the SYM Sport Rider 125i which gives it a sporty character, some of the credits go to its well-sorted mechanical setup as well. The moped is fitted with hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and gas-charged soil springs with rectangular swingarm at the rear. With black finished alloy wheels on both the ends as well as 70/90-17 tire and a disc brake at the front and 80/90-17 tire and a drum brake at the rear, the SYM Sport Rider 125i has a balanced chassis sportily tuned for dynamic handling, backed with good stopping duties.

SYM has always been known for making performance-oriented engines for its two-wheelers, which do manage to post best-in-class performance figures in their respective segments. The SYM Sport Rider 125i too tries to fit in the bill, courtesy its four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 123cc engine. This engine is mated to a slick 4-speed manual gearbox, and produces maximum power and torque outputs of 9.8 PS and 10.8 Nm respectively. The engine has enough grunt down the rev range as well as midrange, making it a sprightful performer.

While it is a budget-oriented moped, the SYM Sport Rider 125i is decently equipped with a few safety features as well, including a shutter mechanism for ignition keyhole, front pilot lamps and front disc brake. However, considering its premium appeal, it could have had more features.

While the SYM Sport Rider 125i’s major attention-grabbing aspect has to be its striking and muscular design, the moped manages to further impress you with its agile handling and powerful engine, making it a proper sporty moped in its segment, intended squarely towards youngsters.
