Aprilia Tuono V4

The looks of the Aprilia Tuono V4 can be polarizing for many, as it looks like a semi-faired tourer which has a touch of aggression in its design. However, this unique design trait of the Aprilia Tuono V4 is what sets it apart from the other naked roadsters it competes with.

At the front, the Aprilia Tuono V4 gets the manufacturer’s trademark triple-headlamps setup, with triple LED headlamps characterized by sharp-looking boomerang-shaped daytime running LEDs over the outer two headlamp units. The cowl around the headlamps also looks massive for a naked roadster, which also gets an edgy-looking chin at the bottom.

Move towards the side profile, and you will start sensing that the Aprilia Tuono V4 is nothing but a naked version of the mighty RSV4, which it is. Apart from the fixed front fascia, which is assisted with a semi-fairing type of cowl between the front fairing and fuel tank, the fuel tank, edgy-looking tail section, engine and single-sided exhaust pipe are all taken from the RSV4. The Aprilia Tuono V4 also gets a pointy engine cowl at the bottom.

The Aprilia Tuono V4 has a split seat setup, with the pillion seat sizing quite small for a full-sized adult. The tail section of the motorcycle looks pointy and compact and gets a triangular LED tail lamp setup and an angular rear fender attached to it. The side-mounted single exhaust pipe of the Aprilia Tuono V4 looks massive and long for a motorcycle of this size, without looking disproportionate.

Compared to the previous-generation model, the new Aprilia Tuono V4 looks new-age from the rider’s point of view, thanks to the introduction of a fancier full-TFT instrument console. The new instrument cluster looks modern and up-to-date with all the necessary information available in the display unit through multiple display modes. Unlike the RSV4, the Aprilia Tuono V4 gets a single handlebar with premium switches on either side.

The Aprilia Tuono V4 shares the rest of the mechanical hardware with the Aprilia RSV4, including the suspension, tyres, frame and brakes. The Tuono V4 gets a fully-adjustable Ohlins-sourced suspension setup in the 1100 Factory version sold in Malaysia. While the front gets 43mm upside-down Ohlins NIX telescopic forks, the rear gets an Ohlins TTX single-shock absorber with piggy-back reservoir and APS progressive linkage. The motorcycle rides on 120/70 ZR 17 tyre at the front and 200/55 ZR 17 tyre at the rear. For stopping duties, the Aprilia Tuono V4 comes equipped with dual 330mm disc brakes at the front and a single 220mm disc brake at the rear, both of which are sourced from Brembo.

The Aprilia Tuono V4 shares its four-stroke, liquid-cooled, 65-degree V4, 1077cc engine with the RSV4 fully-faired super sport. However, unlike its super sports sibling, the Aprilia Tuono V4’s engine is tuned more for on-road usage with more power available in the lower and mid-range. Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, this super smooth and refined engine produces 175 bhp of maximum power and 121 Nm of maximum torque. While the performance figures are lower compared to other hyper-naked like Ducati Streetfighter V4, Kawasaki Z H2 and even Triumph Speed Triple RS, the Aprilia Tuono V4 feels powerful and aggressive in its power delivery.

It is where the Aprilia Tuono V4 plays extremely well, with the Aprilia Performance Ride Control System available in the 1100 Factory variant as standard. This package includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, quick-shifter, cruise control and pit limiter.

The Aprilia Tuono V4 is high on features, technology, performance and riding dynamics, all of which make it a highly desirable naked roadster, despite its subjective styling.
