Jaguar XJ Review 2024

Germany is often said to be the mecca of automobiles. But with brands like Jaguar, Britain is not far behind either. Each and every Jaguar demonstrates the fine convergence of art and engineering to give birth to a vehicle of luxury. One such vehicle is the Jaguar XJ. To tell about the elegance of the XJ, the very fact that the Prime Minister and the royal families of the UK use this very vehicle is enough. This magnificent looking four door sedan comes with four engine options ranging from a 2.0-litre in line 4 cylinder to a rumbling 5 cylinder super charged V8. It also comes in a 3.0-litre V6 Twin Turbo diesel which is the only diesel option available. The Supersport variant that comes with the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 is the most powerful among this lot of engines. It offers a humongous power of 510 horsepowers that pots it in the league of super cars. The torque is also an enthralling 625Nm, which makes it touch the 100 kmph mark in just 4.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The exteriors come with the legendary nose of the Jaguar with the shiny mesh grille on the front that reminds of the royalty of the Jaguar. The Panoramic roof, LED headlamps, chrome usage on the grille, tail pipes, rear bonnet and vents, all add to its glory. The interiors are also in line with the lineage of Jaguar. The dash looks supreme and comes with wooden panels and plenty of exquisite choices of the materials for seats, dash and steering to suit the customer. You can also personalize the vehicle by getting some inscriptions below the windscreen that otherwise carries the Jaguar Insignia. The rear seats get business tray and also 4 zone climate control to meet the needs of every passenger. The 8-inch touchscreen display on the center console is complemented with two full fledged iPads installed on the back of the front seats to make the ride always entertaining. With these features it is evident that even the smallest of needs and desires of the passengers have been kept in mind in the Jaguar XJ. In short, the Jaguar XJ Supersport is a sports car disguised as a luxury sedan.

Jaguar XJ Interior & Features

The interiors of the XJ carry the same panache as its exterior. All the materials, right from the dash panel to the leather on the seats can be chosen and customized as per preference of the customer and each option is as exquisite as the other. The seats look very comfortable and the rear row also comes with a business tray to add to the convenience. The cabin has phosphorus illumination to increase visibility in the tricky areas of the cabin like window buttons and door pockets. The glove box, which can be opened just by a touch using the Jaguar Sense technology also feels great. The analogue clock mounted on the dash gives a touch of aristocracy to the XJ. The most dominating feature however is the chrome lined centre console with an 8-inch touchscreen display. Since, most buyers would prefer to sit on the back seat, there are 2 iPads installed on the back of the front seats to ensure ample entertainment for the back seat passengers. The tread plates are made of stainless steel and look classic in itself.

Interior Comfort:

The XJ provides with almost every possible creature comfort that could be installed in a sedan. Although this is an aristocratic car, it still has kept the comforts for the driver in mind too. The Jaguar Drive Selector and the Jaguar Drive control lets the driver choose the suspension and drive according to the driving conditions. The one touch opening glove box and overhead light operation come as a great convenience to the front row passenger. The heated/cooled front and rear massage seats are extremely roomy for two passengers on the rear row and can easily accommodate a third passenger. The back of the front seats can be opened into a regal looking tray with cup-holders to hold your beverages. The steering wheel has integrated mounted control and is also heated to keep the driver at ease always.

Interior Measurements:

There is no lack of head or leg room for any of the passengers due to its long dimensions. The boot space is also a generous 520-litres which is more than sufficient even for long journeys.

Stereo and Accessories:

The Jaguar has left no stone unturned to provide for an entertaining ride. The centre console comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display along with an option for Dual View which offers two different screens for the driver and the front passenger within the same panel to view two different things at the same time. The rear seats also get screens fitted in the back of the front seats capable of TV/DVD/CD. Two iPads can also be installed in the back of each of the front seats to keep it loaded with entertainment. The audio system of the Xj is a great 825W Meridian Surround Sound which offers great sound quality and has 12 channel DSP amplifier with 20 speakers and 2 sub woofers to provide with a 7.1 surround sound theatrical experience. The car can also connect with 5 Bluetooth devices at the same time. AUX, MP3, USB connectivity is also standard.

XJ Exterior

To cater to the royalty, the car has to be royal and the XJ indeed is. The long exteriors of the XJ carries with it the elegance and stature of the Jaguar brand. The Panoramic roofs are huge and covers almost the entire roof in glass giving a spectacular look of the sky up above. The headlamps are Bi-function HID XENON lamps that starts automatically as the visibility gets low and an intelligent beam feature lowers its beam as soon as it detects any vehicle in front of the lamps. The door handles and vents get chrome treatment that accentuates its looks. The wheels in itself are a treat to the eyes. The 20-inch alloys in the Supersport look all set to transfer all that power on the tarmac. The boot lid is also adjustable, which means that the degree of opening the boot lid can be set as per convenience. The rear LED lamps looks classy with its 57 LEDs in every unit and the two chrome tailpipes add to the attitude. The wing mirrors are also automatic with memory functions that can be automatically set to your driving preference. The rear bumpers also get ultra sonic sensors to warn you of any obstacle while reversing. The magnificent styling, dimensions and the metal of the XJ's body never fails to make an impact on the on lookers.

Exterior Dimensions:

The XJ is definitely long. The overall dimensions of Jaguar XF measure 5252mm x 1899mm x 1457mm (L x W x H) that gives it a great street presence along with perfect aerodynamics. The wheelbase of the XJ is also a long 3157mm that makes its turning circle slightly bigger and might pose a problem in tight spaces.

Wheels:

The XJL 2.0 Ti, which is the 2.0-litre petrol variant and the XJL 3.0 Td (diesel) gets 19-inch alloys where as the XJL 3.0 SC and the XJL 5.0 SC SuperSport gets 20-inch alloys, all of which looks classic. The tyre dimensions on the 5.0 SC is 245/40 ZR20 for the front and a wider 245/35 ZR20 for the rear wheel.

Jaguar XJ Mileage Running Cost

The most efficient engine out of the four is obviously the diesel with the fuel economy of applaud worthy 16.4 kmpl. The Supersport variant however is thirsty, gulping a litre of fuel in every 9 kilometers. The 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre supercharged petrol variants offer the economy of comparable 10.75 kmpl and 10.4 kmpl respectively The CO2 emissions of the super sport is also exceptionally low at 270g/km.

XJ Engine & Fuel Consumption

Jaguar XJ has four engine variants including three petrol and one diesel engine. The 3 petrol variants are 2.0-litre inline 4 turbo, 3.0-litre V6 supercharged and the 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged that offer 240hp, 340hp and 510hp respectively. The 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo diesel offers 275hp and a max torque of 600Nm. The Supersport variant which has the 5.0-litre V8 is the most powerful and also offers a stratospheric torque of 625Nm at 2,500rpm. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel is the most efficient and among the petrol the 2.0-litre in line 4 turbocharged is the most efficient. The transmission on the supersport is a paddle shift 8 speed automatic gear box with Jaguar Sequential shift technology that seriously increase the efficiency of this beast.

Power:

Royalty always has power. So is the case with the Jaguar XJ supersport. This 5.0-litre supercharged variant gets a staggering 510hp worth of power at 6000 rpm along with an excellent torque of 625Nm at 2500rpm. The 3.0-litre V6 petrol gets 340 hp whereas its smaller 2.0-litre petrol gets a modest 240 hp. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel however churns out a good 275hp and a massive torque of 600Nm.

Acceleration:

The XJ Supersport is nothing but fast. Its powerful V8 makes it touch the 100kmph mark in a blazing fast 4.9 seconds. The top speed is also electronically limited 250kmph, but it is capable of going much faster. The 2.0-litre i4 petrol is the slowest as it takes 7.5 seconds to century.

Jaguar XJ Braking & Safety

Braking and Handling:

The XJ offers supreme handling and braking experience. The brakes on both the front and rear wheels are ventilated discs as standard which ensures proper braking and it is also complemented by ABS and EBD on all four wheels. The suspension on the front wheels are double wishbone type whereas on the rear, it is of multi link type. The turning radius is a little big which might be a hindrance in compact spaces.

Safety and Security:

The XJ comes loaded with safety features. The Jaguar XJ has ensured that the car is safe and sound for the passenger as well as for the other drivers and pedestrians around the car. To achieve this, it has features like 8 airbags (driver, front, side, rear and curtain), ABS, EBD, Hill start assist, Parking sensor and camera, stability control and ISOFIX child seats. The immobilizer and alarm system takes care of the security.
