Volvo ES90 EV breaks cover - 3 variants, 700 km range, 0-100 kmph in 4 secs

KUALA LUMPUR: After rolling out a range of smart electric SUVs, Volvo has now come up with its first-ever electric sedan, called the ES90. It is ready to take on tough rivals like the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.

Dimensions

The new ES90 is based on Volvo’s modular SPA2 platform, which we can also find under the EX90 SUV. It is a large sedan measuring 5000 mm in length, 1942 mm in width, and 1549 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3102 mm. The boot capacity is estimated at 424 litres, expandable up to 733 litres with the rear seats folded up. The EV also houses a 22-litre frunk at the front.

Exterior

The new Volvo EV features a low-slung, sophisticated design language with a closed-off front grille, neat body lines, and a streamlined roof, typical of Volvo EVs. The key highlights are as follows -

Interior 

The Swedish sedan boasts a minimalistic cabin design offering a lounge-like comfort with tons of premium features. The seats are wrapped in premium upholstery available in multiple themes - Dawn, Charcoal, Cardamom, and Zinc.

Safety

Volvo cars are known for their safety quotient, and the ES90 is no exception. The EV is equipped with an advanced array of safety and driver-assistance features backed by seven cameras, five radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a lidar from Luminar Technologies.
