Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 And The S 580: First Impression
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has just unveiled two super luxury vehicles with a hefty price tag. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 (4MATIC) SUV is priced at RM1,789,453.18 and is fully imported and then there is Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC sedan which is priced a little higher at RM1,928,815.76 and is also a fully imported vehicle.
Targeted at high net worth car buyers that might be drawn to the Bentley, Aston Martin, and even Rolls Royce brands, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is ‘tickling’ their interest with these two all new ‘Maybach’ options.
First a little history lesson. The Mercedes-Maybach brand stands for exclusive luxury, maximum comfort and state-of-the-art technology in automotive engineering, services and accessories.
It is a trailblazer in defining style and status. The maxim of its name-giver Wilhelm Maybach was to create the very best from the very best. In 2014 Mercedes-Maybach was established as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz as part of a brand realignment.
Since its market launch in 2015, more than 45,000 units of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class have been delivered worldwide but only a handful have arrived in Malaysia. In 2018 more Mercedes-Maybach S-Class cars were sold than ever before: one in seven S-Class models sold was a Maybach. This shows a growing interest in the Maybach name and quality.
The Maybach GLS 600 SUV interior offers a high standard of comfort appointments one would expect in the super luxury class. The effective insulation of the interior to prevent disturbing noise and vibration from entering the cabin space. This makes it easier for the driver and Executive passengers to converse, as does the intercom (two- way in-car communication) included as part of the standard Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System.
This Maybach SUV challenges its rivals like the Bentley Bentayga which is priced from RM2.68 million before options are included, the Aston Martin DBX which touches RM1.9 million before options are decided and even the segment leader, the Rolls Royce Cullinan which hovers around RM6.0 million even before the ultra fancy features are added to the options list.
Therefore, the elite car buyer in Malaysia has a new option to look at and it comes with heritage and class that will keep the board members happy.
Meanwhile, there is also a Maybach sedan on offer, the S 580 4MATIC. This super luxury sedan not only carries a very unique look, but also a premium dual tone paint finish.
Competing directly with the Bentley Flying Spur which retails slightly above RM2.2 million before some needed extras are added and the Rolls Royce Phantom which reaches a lofty price of RM6 million before needed additions are included, this Maybach S 580 sedan delivers more for less in so many areas.
So, it looks like Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has two super luxury vehicles for two very different ownership tastes, one SUV and one sedan and they are both fitted with every possible luxury feature and engine performance to challenge the rivals which happen to cost much more and have equal prestige.
All that is left is for you to visit a Mercedes-Benz dealer and take the rear seat ride to decide if it fits your comfort and ‘arrive with super style’ image.
Plus, the asking price allows you to buy both and still have some leftover change when compared to the BMW-owned and powered Rolls Royce vehicles.
