Mercedes-Benz EQS: Detailed in pics

Almost one month back, Mercedes-Benz expanded its local lineup by adding three luxury electric vehicles (belonging to the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand), while reinforcing its commitment to pave the road for an electric future in Malaysia.

One of these brand-new EVs is the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which is the automaker’s first all-electric luxury sedan offering automotive luxury at its best. It comes in a single EQS 450+ variant in Malaysia, priced at RM 698,888 (on-the-road without insurance).

Here, we take you to a detailed walkthrough of the EV’s exterior and interior pictures.

Mercedes-Benz EQS front grille

The fastback-like body of the electric sedan is styled in a Sensual Purity fashion. It starts right away with the Mercedes-EQ Black Panel radiator grille at the front mated to a three-dimensional star pattern.

Digital lights

The grille comes paired with top-of-the-line Digital Light LED headlights that are connected with a light bar running just ahead of the hood. The digital headlamp tech combines the familiar functions of the multibeam LED headlights with innovative high-resolution lighting technology.

Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Malaysian-spec EQS comes standard with the AMG Line package, which takes the futuristic styling of the EV to the next level. It comprises an aggressive front bumper with an A-wing profile, prominent corner inlets, a sporty rear bumper, a subtle diffuser-like element, and vertical corner outlets.

Also part of the AMG Line package is 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Flush-fitting door handles

On the sides of the EV, the flush-fitting door handles are positioned, which not only enhances its exclusive approach but also adds to the EV’s drag coefficient of 0.20. Mercedes-Benz claims it as the world’s lowest drag coefficient.

Tail lights

At the rear lies the full-width, 3D helix tail lights, which ensure heads turning wherever it drives.

Mercedes-Benz EQS

This epitome of luxury measures 5,216 mm in length, 1,926 mm in width, 1,512 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 3,210 mm. With these numbers, it occupies a slightly smaller footprint in comparison to the ICE-powered S-Class.

EQS platform

The EQS underpins a completely newly developed platform named Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA), fusing luxury, design, tech, functionality, and connectivity. After the EQS sedan, it serves as the basis for EQS SUV, EQE, and the upcoming EQE SUV.

MBUX Hyperscreen

Hop inside the new EQS and you will be greeted by a new MBUX Hyperscreen, which has the most advanced display the brand has ever developed. The hyperscreen spans the entire width of the instrument cluster. It comprises an LCD driver display, a media display in the centre, and a passenger display in state-of-the-art OLED technology. The system uses AI to bring features and commands with a "zero-layer" menu concept.

The MBUX hyperscreen also comes paired with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity options and a 15-speaker 750-watt Burmester sound system.

MBUX Interior Assistant

One can also enjoy the MBUX Interior Assistant system that registers the passengers in the front seats. It adapts to their habits, pays attention to their comfort, and anticipates their needs like no other EV. For instance, the panoramic sunroof can be opened or closed without operating the button.

Head-up display

The automaker also offers an optional head-up display with augmented reality. Thus, the field of vision is supplemented by virtual cues, improving safety and comfort in equal measure.

64-colour ambient lighting

With the Electric Art package, the electric sedan also features a comprehensive 64-colour ambient lighting system spanning the dash, doors, and even the seats.

first-class rear compartment

The occupants can also experience the best sense of space inside the EV with the first-class rear compartment.

Sunroof

Adding to the passenger’s comfort are the features like climatised front and rear seats, heat and noise-insulating laminated glass, wireless charging, and adaptive rear compartment lighting.

Indeed, the occupants are surrounded by progressive luxury inside the EV.

Under the shiny skin of the EV lies a single electric motor paired with a 107.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The setup churns out a power output of 333 hp and a maximum torque of 565 Nm, enabling the electric sedan to clock the 100 kmph mark in 6.2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 210 kmph.

Mercedes-Benz EQS charger

When it comes to the driving range, the Mercedes-Benz EQS offers the longest EV range in Malaysia i.e. 782 km. As for charging, it takes only half an hour for 0 to 80% SOC when using a 200 kW DC charger. An 11kW onboard AC charger, on the other hand, completes the 100% task in 10 hours.

Undoubtedly, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is the dawn of a new, breathtakingly sensuous era in the automotive world. What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
