Maserati Ghibli Hybrid global debut set for July 15

KUALA LUMPUR: In the automotive industry, Maserati has set a benchmark with its futuristic tech, design, and performance. And now, the firm is on a mission to electrify its complete range of vehicles starting from Maserati Ghibli.

The new Ghibli Hybrid was initially supposed to make its debut at the Beijing Motor Show back in April, but it could not happen due to the Corona outbreak. Recently, the automaker released a teaser video revealing the official premiere date of the new Ghibli Hybrid, i.e., July 15, 2020. The event will take place online at Maserati’s official website, www.maserati.com.

“The natural world is full of moments where a single spark evolves into something new - an instant where hybridization acts as the catalyst for change, and divergent elements clash and combine; meet and mix; encounter and evolve; giving rise to something better than before,” Maserati says.

The technical details about the Ghibli Hybrid are currently very limited and will be known at the time of its official reveal. In terms of design, it is likely to get the new designing cues along with the latest feature updates. The hybrid version will be produced at the Modena plant in Italy.

Currently, Ghibli is powered by 3.0-litre V6 engine capable of churning out 350 PS of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 500 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. With such power on the wheels, it can manage a top speed of 267 kmph and can do the 0-100 kmph acceleration in just 5.5 seconds. The average fuel economy is clocked around 9 kmpl.

The upcoming Ghibli hybrid is a part of Maserati’s product roadmap through 2023. Along with this, it includes facelifted Quattroporte and Levante as well as the brand’s first pure electric vehicle MC20, scheduled for launch in September this year. Following MC20, the all-new GranTurismo and GranCabrio models will be revealed as fully electric models. Furthermore, the automaker also plans to develop a new electrified SUV that will sit below the Levante in its lineup.
