Infiniti announces five new car launches by 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: Infiniti, the Nissan-owned luxury vehicle automaker, has announced that it is planning to launch five new cars in the upcoming three years, including the revised range of extender electric vehicles and hybrid cars. Furthermore, it has also disclosed the first would be launched in mid-2020 and would be a coupe version of the QX50.
Reports suggest the second in the list is expected to be a crossover coupe, probably the QX55 which would possibly be launched with a sloping roofline as inspired by the first-generation QX70, formerly known as the Infiniti FX. Additional reports also suggest that the QX55 is going to receive the same four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre engine found installed in the QX50. Moreover, QX55 is also expected to be packed with a unique set of design elements such as a new grille design and a refurbished version of the front fascia.
The all-new QX55 is expected to be useful for customers who prefer styling over utility, with the latter being significant only to some extent. As per the verdict of Tim Franklin, the product planning director of Infiniti, the QX55 is targetted towards single buyers or bachelors who are ready to compromise on space for style.
The QX55 would be followed by the upgraded QX60 facelift, which was launched in 2016. The facelifted QX60 is currently the bestseller model in the US. The revised version would be packed with a number of new features like a dual-tone roof, a large radiator grille and two screens of 12.3 inches each,
one of which would be for the instrument cluster, the second would be installed for the infotainment system. As per the source, Eric Rigaux, the global head of Infiniti’s product strategy and planning, has stated that the overall styling of the QX60 would be more SUV-like and come with a much stronger presence than the version that exists currently.
By the mid-term, Infiniti is also planning to release three electrified cars, one of which would be a crossover, and the other two being sedans. It is also expected to be coming up with cars that would run on Nissan’s e-Power range-extender technology.
