Infiniti QX55

The interior layout of the Infiniti QX55 might not be immensely modern as that of similarly-priced European SUVs. However, the cabin exudes top-class fit and finish levels, with all the features and bits being of top-order quality.

Given the current standards set by rival SUVs in this segment, the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and the instrument console with analogue gauges having a TFT MID in between make the driver’s cockpit of the QX55 look a bit old-school. However, the unique dual-touchscreen set-up for the centre console – with the upper one for the navigation system and the lower one for the infotainment system – gives it a bit of uniqueness.

The silver finish for the AC vent surrounds and gloss black finish for the AC control surrounds add more richness to the cabin. Other premium features of the cabin of the Infiniti QX55 include full leather upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control, 16-speaker BOSE audio system, powered front seats with heating and ventilation functions, ambient lighting, and an electrically-adjustable steering wheel.

Compared to all the other SUVs and crossovers with a conventional stance from Infiniti, the QX55 has a coupe-like roofline, which gives it a unique and very dramatic appearance on the road. The heightened bonnet and ground clearance, coupled with a sloping and curved roofline, makes the Infiniti QX55 a style statement.

The front fascia of the QX55 features a double arch grille with rounded sides. This grille looks premium with its chrome surrounds and Japanese origami-inspired 3D mesh design inside. Beyond the upper edges of this stylish-looking grille, the QX55 comes with wing-like all-LED headlamps, which come integrated with a quad LED projector setup and C-shaped daytime running LEDs. There are C-shaped gloss black surrounds for the LED fog lamps on the corners of the front bumper, which extend towards the central air dam.

The rounded coupe-like roofline is the first thing that catches the attention in the side profile of the Infiniti QX55. This rounded roofline, along with the large 20-inch machined alloy wheels, rounded wheel arches, and well-contoured front and rear fenders, gives the QX55 a sporty stance. For a premium feel, the QX55 features a chrome finish for the door handles, window surrounds, and fender elements.

The rear profile of the Infiniti QX55 looks equally dramatic as the front and side profiles, with the SUV coupe getting LED combination lamps having intricate LED inserts. The clean-looking boot lid of the QX55 is further accompanied by C-shaped scoops towards the rear fenders, twin exhaust ports, and wraparound black garnish for the upper and side parts of the rear bumper.

While the 20-inch alloy wheels give the Infiniti QX55 a sporty and athletic stance, they also help in making the handling feel sporty. The overall driving experience is further made more dynamic by the sporty suspension setup of McPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear.

The Infiniti QX55 sources its power from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired with a CVT as the standard transmission option. This engine claims a maximum power output of 270 PS and a peak torque output of 380 Nm.

The premium safety features offered in the Infiniti QX55 include adaptive cruise control with distance control assist, lane departure warning and prevention, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, high beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, predictive forward collision warning and head-up display.

While the interior of the Infiniti QX55 might not be as futuristic to look at as that of other luxury midsize SUVs, Infiniti has left no stone unturned in making the QX55 a proper head-turner. The youthful SUV-coupe design is complemented by rich fit and finish levels and a sporty driving experience with the powerful engine and sporty suspension setup.
