Infiniti Q60

On the inside too, Infiniti has carried out a lot of the dashboard design from the Q50. However, there are a number of changes over the Q50, which make the overall cabin of the Q60 even more luxurious and sportier in feel.

Out goes the boring steering wheel for a more sportier looking one with a diamond-shaped center boss with prominent silver finishes. However, sadly, the sober-looking instrument console is the same as that of the Q50, which looks a bit out of place here.

The slanting center console with two large touchscreens stacked one over the above is designed in the same way as that in the Q50. However, there is a vast difference in upholstery and trim options – the Q60 gets a more premium high-backed sport semi-aniline leather upholstery and brushed aluminium interior trim. The Q60 also seats four passengers, however, the limited legroom and knee room due to the two-door profile makes up for a slight compromise in space.

The complete set of comfort and convenience features in the Q60 has been shared with that of the Q50. This means that the Q60 is equipped with kit like keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), automatic high beam headlamps, 10-way powered driver’s seat with 2-way powered lumbar support, heated front seats, memory system for driver’s seat, outside mirrors and steering wheel settings and a premium BOSE 13-speaker audio system.

On the outside, the Q60 shares the positives of the Q50 sedan and adds in its own set of individualistic design themes to make it even more visually striking.

The front fascia of the Q60 is completely the same as that of the Q50, with the same double-arch front grille as well as full LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs. However, there are a couple of changes like a sportier looking front bumper and smaller and sleeker front LED fog lamps with different housings.

The side profile is where the changes start becoming even more dramatic. Gone are the rear doors, with the Q60 getting a more stylish two-door look. As expected, the Q60 gets a sloping down rear roofline for the traditional coupe stance, with the window frame getting a chrome surround as well as a small kink towards the rear window, just like how it is there on the Q50.

At the rear, thankfully, Infiniti has not made the things sublime and carried out major sheet metal changes over the Q50. While the big and curvy LED tail lamps have been lifted off from the Q50, the license plate housing has moved to the rear bumper, giving the boot a cleaner and sportier look.

The Q60 gets the same independent, double-wishbone with coil springs with stabilizer bar at the front and independent, multi-link with coil springs with stabilizer bar at the rear as on the Q50. However, to make it feel as sportier as it looks, Infiniti has stiffened up the suspension to make it sharper around corners.

Since the Q60 is based on the Q50, it shares the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the latter. Here too, the engine is in the same state of tune, as it belts out a maximum power output of 213PS and a peak torque output of 350Nm through the same 7-speed automatic gearbox as in the Q50.

Along with the list of comfort and convenience features, the Q60 also shares its safety features list with the Q50. This list includes front, side, and curtain passenger airbags Anti-locking Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with a display.

With the Q60, Infiniti has added a touch of sporty appeal to the Q50’s already proven base of luxury, comfort, and presence of a hefty number of pampering features. While the Q60 is a dynamic vehicle to look at, the fine-tuned engine performance, as well as chassis, make it a lovable driver’s car.
