BMW i4

Step into the cabin of the BMW i4, and you will feel that the luxury and futurism are in equal amounts in the cabin, thus making it a high-quality place to be in. Here too, the BMW i4 follows the latest design approach, the highlight of which is the large curved display, which houses a 12.3-inch full-TFT instrument console and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. 

The BMW i4 does not have a sci-fi theme for the cabin, but a rather conventional dual-tone black and beige leather interior. The centre console below the touchscreen infotainment system has a wide design, with a sleek and layered design for the AC vents and controls for the automatic climate control buttons. There is also a sleek silver layer across the dashboard, which separates the upper and lower layers of the dashboard. The cabin is spacious enough for five people, though the under-thigh support could have been better. The boot opens up like a notchback; under it, the i4 hides 470 litres of boot space.

The BMW i4 wears the latest design language of the German car maker, which means that it is a sleek-looking car with some sharp-edged elements. It also means that it has a slightly loud-looking frontal design, which might look a bit overdone for some, thanks to the oversized grille in the middle.

The BMW i4 also gets a double kidney theme design for the grille, though the kidneys have grown massive in size, which might not be to everyone’s taste. This grille has a closed design and comes with studded inserts within it. To enhance the aerodynamics of the car, BMW has given sharp-looking air inlets on the edges of the front bumper, which at the same time, makes the car look sporty.

The BMW i4 looks sleek and long when viewed from the side, which makes it look like a conventional low-slung sedan. While the long bonnet and wheelbase give a planted stance to the BMW i4, the 19-inch M aerodynamic alloy wheels add a style statement to the car's side profile. Adding more fashion statements to the i4 is the coupe-like roofline flowing downwards, and the flap-type door handles with a new-age design.

At the back, the BMW i4 has sleek-looking tail lamps with new-age LED inserts, which grow larger while moving outside. The combination of LED tail lamps covers much of the rear profile, making the car look wider. The blue highlights on the sporty-looking rear diffuser add a touch of sportiness to the car when viewed from the rear.

Despite the replacement of an IC engine with an electric powertrain, the BMW i4 hasn’t compromised on the traditional driving ethos people expect from a BMW. The low-slung appeal and 19-inch wheels give it a planted stance, which gives the car a grippy feel to the tarmac. The steering, though lighter than other BMWs, doesn’t feel lifeless and is precise in its turns.

The BMW i4 gets a new-age all-electric powertrain under its skin, a combination of a single motor setup mounted at the back of the car and an 83.9 kWh lithium-ion battery setup. The electric motor of the i4 generates 340 PS of maximum power and 430 Nm of maximum torque, while the car's lithium-ion battery returns a maximum range of 590 km.

The BMW i4 comes with a host of advanced safety features, including airbags all around, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist and a whole host of ADAS features.

With a super smooth and silent powertrain, the BMW i4 gives a new-age experience of driving a BMW sedan. The sedan has a futuristic appeal in and out, which justifies its premium positioning.
