EuroNCAP gives a 5-star rating to all-new Volvo S60 and V60

KUALA LUMPUR: The brand-new Volvo S60 sedan and V60 estate get the highest five-star rating at the 2018 Euro NCAP safety tests. This means, the streak for getting the five stars continues.

It is not a big surprise to the auto enthusiasts as the carmaker is known to provide high-level safety features to the vehicles. All the cars that are currently available in the market, like the V40 hatchback to the XC90 SUV, also have the five-star rating at the test.

The 2018 Euro NCAP testing system is tougher than all the previous generations. There is a lot of new challenges on the safety technology. It includes the emergency lane keeping and auto-brake system along with cyclist detection. And among all the tested cars this year, these two Volvo cars are the safest.

The S60 and the V60 are based on the manufacturer's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture). All the Volvo cars feature active safety package, City Safety, along with the Autobrake technology as standard. The City Safety system is the only feature available in the market that detects large animals, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The Volvo V60 was launched earlier this year while the S60 sports sedan’s new generation model was introduced later. The main difference between S60 and the other Volvo car is the absence of a diesel variant in the former. This also indicates that the company will focus on electric vehicles in the near future.

The Volvo V60 is the first car to be built in this plant. It derives its power from a petrol engine that can be had with a plug-in hybrid system. The T5 variant of the car belts out a maximum power of 250 hp while the hybrid T8 AWD offers up to 400 hp of power.
