Auto Shanghai 2021: Mercedes reveals Maybach S-Class

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes has revealed several models at this year's Auto Shanghai including the EQB, EQA, EQS, C-Class L sedan, and CLS facelift. And now part of the kit is the Maybach S-Class luxury limousine.

In China, the Maybach S-Class is offered in a single S 480 4 Matic trim that is powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol mill that also powers the regular S 450 4Matic. However, the engine here is downsized from an eight or 12-cylinder unit to a six, so as to make the model more affordable. Also, in China, there are steep taxes on cars with large-displacement powertrains.

As for the engine's output figures, it churns out a maximum power of 367 PS at 6,100 rpm along with a peak torque of 500 Nm from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-drive drive. Also, part of the powertrain setup is a 48-volt mild hybrid EQ boost system that provides assistance of 22 PS and 250 Nm.

On the performance front, the engine enables the limousine to touch the 100 kmph mark in just 5.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 kmph.

As per the official figures, the luxurious car measures 5,470 mm in length, making it 150 mm longer than the long-wheelbase version. The added length serves to the comfort of the rear passengers, they'll get to enjoy individual seats along with several luxurious features including -

• Electric sunshades
• Panoramic glass sunroof
• 15-speaker Burmester sound system
• Plush upholstery & pillows

Also, part of the China-spec Maybach S-Class feature kit is the full Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system which includes a 64-colour lighting system, rear-seat entertainment, and premium trim material.

In China, Mercedes is offering the latest Maybach S-Class for 1.468 million yuan (approx. RM 928,462). In comparison, the regular S-Class base model price stands at 899,800 yuan (RM 569,051).
