All-new Mercedes-AMG A 35 L 4Matic to debut in China

KUALA LUMPUR: All-new Mercedes-AMG A 35 L 4Matic, a long-wheelbase version of the performance sedan (A 35) is set to make its debut in China, after being revealed in March 2019. The car will be built under the joint venture between the Daimler and its Chinese partner BAIC Motor called, Beijing Benz Automotive.

As mentioned earlier, the only difference between Mercedes-AMG A 35 L 4Matic and the A35 sedan is that the former has a wheelbase of 2,789 mm, compared to the 2,729 mm of the sedan. Apart from it, the car’s design and other features are almost identical to the performance sedan.

At the front, the car gets the AMG Line front apron with canards, a front splitter, and a twin-louvre grille. The four-wheeler rides on the 19-inch wheels and has a dedicated AMG badging on the C-pillars. Coming to the rear, a spoiler lip is present on the boot lid followed by a diffuser insert at the bottom. Some of these elements are also part of the AMG Aerodynamics package.

Getting inside the car, there is a widescreen display which is connected with the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). One can also choose between a standard AMG and a Performance version steering wheel. The latter features a rotary control having an integrated display. Furthermore, there are two interior theme options too - titan grey/black and classic red/black.

Under the hood, an uprated M260 2.0-litre turbo four-pot is mated to seven-speed AMG Speedshift DCT 7G automatic transmission. The engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 302 hp, which comes at 5,800 rpm, whereas the peak torque is 400 Nm and comes at 3,000-4,000 rpm. It is further equipped with an AMG Performance 4Matic variable all-wheel-drive system.

The coaster can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph within 4.9 seconds before achieving a top speed of 250 kmph. It also has five AMG Dynamic Select drive programmes that include Comfort, Slippery, Individual, Sport, and Sport.
