Recent Updates of Golf R-Line
Volkswagen very recently unveiled the new Golf R-Line in the Malaysian market. The company opened the bookings for the car in February 2022. The car is being locally assembled like the Golf GTI with a slight increase in the retail price of the car as well. The car is available in a single variant priced at RM 165,000. The Golf R-Line gets the familiar 1.4-litre TSI engine that makes 148 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. The modern downsized turbo engine is now paired to an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox instead of the DSG dual-clutch gearbox in the previous Golf R-Line.

Volkswagen Golf R-Line Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Volkswagen Golf R-Line is the most affordable and entry-level variant of the lineup of Golf hatchbacks in the Malaysian car market. With premium styling in and out and a potent mechanical setup, the Volkswagen Golf R-Line is for those who want something more than the usual entry-level hatchbacks. The premium Volkswagen Golf R-Line is available standard with a petrol-automatic powertrain and in five colour options - Moonstone Grey, Oryx White, Atlantic Blue, Kings Red, and Deep Black.
Volkswagen Golf R-Line Interior & Features
The Volkswagen Golf R-Line has become much more tech-savvy in its overall feel when it comes to the ambience on the inside. It looks every bit like a premium and modern car, with all the tech shared with the bigger and much more premium Volkswagen sedans and SUVs.
The driver’s cockpit looks super-cool with the presence of a wide driver’s cockpit, which comes integrated with a 10-inch full-TFT instrument console and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin here is bestowed with R-Line treatment for the headliner, brushed stainless steel pedals, leather-wrapped sports steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, Carbon Grey trim on dashboard and front door panels, front sport seats with Sardegna fabric upholstery and Art Velours side bolsters.
The Volkswagen Golf R-Line also gets a few other premium features for the premium money it commands, such as ambient lighting with 5 preset themes, auto-dimming rearview mirror, three-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and all-LED cabin illumination.
Golf R-Line Exterior
The Volkswagen Golf has always had a premium aura around it, and the credit for it goes to its sharp and angular design, which has only become fancier with this latest iteration. The overall design of the Volkswagen Golf R-Line now looks in line with the sleek-looking bigger offerings from Volkswagen, like the Tiguan and Passat.
At the front, the Volkswagen Golf R-Line welcomes you with a very sleek-looking fascia, which comprises a horizontal strip with a VW logo in the middle, acting like a grille. This horizontal strip gets double-barrel LED projector headlamp assemblies on either side, which are garnished with daytime running LEDs on their outer ends. The large air dam covering the width of the front bumper adds a dash of sportiness to the hatchback.
Move towards the side profile, and the Volkswagen Golf R-Line impresses with its taut lines, which makes it look purely German. There is a sense of simplicity in the side profile of the Volkswagen Golf R-Line, with a character line flowing from the headlamp to the tail lamp, and the car having rounded wheel arches. The Volkswagen Golf R-Line comes equipped with 17-inch grey-themed Valencia alloy wheels.
At the back, the Volkswagen Golf R-Line has become sharp in its appearance, which has been possible due to the revised edgy-looking all-LED tail lamps. These tail lamp assemblies come equipped with dynamic LED turn indicators. As a part of the R-Line package, the Volkswagen Golf R-Line also gets an R-Line design front bumper with gloss black front air intakes, R-Line rear bumper, radiator grille, and side skirts.
Volkswagen Golf R-Line Ride & Handling
The Volkswagen Golf has always been referred to as one of the best driver’s cars among hatchbacks for the masses, and this latest R-Line iteration doesn’t disappoint either. The car features a very responsive steering wheel and a slightly stiffer-set front and rear sport suspension, which makes it feel dynamic to drive. The Volkswagen Golf R-Line also comes with a drive mode selector with three modes – Eco, Comfort, and Sport, and XDS electronic differential lock for improved traction and handling.
Golf R-Line Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Volkswagen Golf R-Line is the tried and tested 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing a maximum power output of 150 PS and a peak torque output of 250 Nm. The engine is solely available with the transmission choice of an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Volkswagen Golf R-Line Braking & Safety
The decently long safety equipment list of the Volkswagen Golf R-Line includes six airbags, automatic post-collision braking, electronic stability control, traction control, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
Golf R-Line Verdict
The Volkswagen Golf R-Line might be significantly pricier than the other hatchbacks, but for the premium, it offers a much more upmarket feel of a sturdy hatchback with impeccable fit and finish levels, high-quality features, and a potent mechanical setup that feels right at the top of the game.
