All-new Mercedes A-Class launched, price starts from RM 227,888

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has launched the fourth generation A-Class hatchback in Malaysia. The updated model has been introduced in two trim levels – A200 Progressive Line and A250 AMG Line. The former is priced at RM227,888, while the more powerful latter is pegged at RM263,888.

The new-gen model comes with a pair of all-new engines. The more affordable A200 is equipped with a 1.3-litre four cylinder turbocharged engine that is capable of developing 163 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, while being mated to a 7G-DCT automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. This engine thus produces 7 bhp more than the outgoing model’s 1.6-litre mill. Mercedes claims that the new-gen A-Class A200 can complete the 0-100 kmph sprint in around 8 seconds, before hitting its top speed of 225 kmph. The new power plant also gets Mercedes’ cylinder deactivation technology that helps in extracting a respectable fuel economy figure of 17.86 kmpl.

Meanwhile, the A250 AMG variant comes with a 2.0-litre engine that is rated at 224 bhp and 350 Nm. It also gets the same 7G-DCT automatic gearbox that is found on the lower trim. However, the bigger capacity engine helps the A250 to accelerate from 0-100 kmph on a company claimed time of just 6.2 seconds, while the hatchback’s top speed is limited to 250 kmph.

Despite being the smallest car in the Mercedes Benz portfolio, the A-Class gets a serious dose of advanced technology and convenience features. It comes with an intelligent multimedia infotainment system called MBUX, which is capable of being a virtual assistant inside the car. Occupants can simple say ‘Hey, Mercedes’, followed by their command, to control the infotainment system.

Other advanced features available with the new-gen A-Class include LED headlights, Thermatic auto climate control, Dynamic Select, Active Brake Assist, Active Park Assist and cruise control with Speedtronic speed limiter. The A250 AMG variant further gets 18-inch alloy wheels, AMG kit on the outside, and a sportier cabin.
