The brand Mini conjures up images of a compact hatchback. But with dimensions larger than the Jeep Compass, the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric is more in the crossover-sports utility vehicle (SUV) class. But it’s not a true-blue SUV. The Countryman Electric gets curvy styling and smooth body lines. There are no cuts or creases and that make the car look sophisticated, instead of intimidating and aggressive. The matte champagne garnish around the closed-off front grille enhances the look. The rear, side, and front skid plates and the C-pillar have the same garnish. The Countryman badge and the Mini logo are also finished in the same colour. The car runs on rides on two-tone 20-inch Windmill Spoke alloy wheels.

The car’s front sports square-type headlights with perimeter daytime running lights (DRLS). The car gets all-around LED lighting. There’s a large hexagonal grille, chunky fender flares, and pull-up door handles. A blackened roof and a wraparound glass area mask the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric’s height. The rear-end gets matrix taillights and a rather odd-looking C-pillar trim piece that drops downward from the roof. Other typical Mini cues like the clamshell bonnet and the side scuttles on the front fenders have been dropped from the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric to adopt a minimalist look. The Malaysia-spec model gets Vibrant Silver and Piano Black door mirrors.

The interior of the Countryman Electric is on the practical side with a minimalist theme. The cabin is upholstered in open-pore, recycled fabric. It’s finished in blue and fades into a brown shade at the car’s rear half. The champagne-coloured theme is carried over in the cabin as well. The dashboard’s highlight is the 9.4-inch circular touchscreen infotainment unit. The dashboard itself gets a wraparound design covered in Dark Petrol (ironic) hounds-tooth fabric.

It’s hugely responsive and offers unmatched clarity. The infotainment unit gets funky animations, fun themes, and musical notifications. The screen also serves as a driver’s information display unit. But that becomes a bit inconvenient to read when on the move. The head-up display (HUD) is too basic and is quite difficult to read when the car is speeding. The toggle switches below the screen are simplified and comprises only the drive-mode selector, volume knob, parking brake button, and a unique key-like starter. 

Is the Mini Countryman Electric spacious?

With 4,445 mm length, 2,069 mm width, and 1,635 mm height, the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric is a spacious crossover-SUV in its class. The two front seats are spacious. But the optional sport sets are tool sculpted and firm. However, both come with massaging function. There’s a lot of legroom and headroom on the front seats.

The rear seats are spacious. They get reclining function. The height of the floor is a bit raised because of the battery pack and taller passengers may have to sit with their knees up. But it’s never uncomfortable even on long trips. Three passengers can comfortably sit at the back because of the broad seat and flat floor. 

There’s abundant storage space in the 2024 Mini Countryman Electric. There’s a spacious glovebox and door bins. The cupholders are nicely placed. The slim space under the central armrest hides tuff from view.

The car comes with 460 litres of boot space. Folding the 40:20:40 rear seats, expand the boot space to 1,350 litres.

The motor is powered by a 66.5kWh battery pack. The car offers enthusiastic handling and is always keen to go. The steering wheel sometimes feels numb but that doesn’t affect in-city handling. The Countryman Electric overtakes other cars easily. The acceleration is smooth. There’s ample power for cruising down the highway. The suspension is smooth and absorbs most bumps and potholes.
