A flagship performance SUV based on Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 makes debut
KUALA LUMPUR: The headline itself is a hint as to the party involved in tuning a Mercedes flagship SUV, it’s none other than Brabus. For those who aren't aware, Brabus is an aftermarket tuner of Mercedes-Benz vehicles with its most recent revision involving the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. And now, the Germer tuner’s next assignment makes its debut and this time it has chosen the brand’s flagship SUV, the AMG GLS 63.
Like all its previous creations, this one too is tastefully done and we hope the trend continues forever. Let’s now discuss the Brabus version of the AMG GLS 63, starting with under the hood tweaks.
Brabus 800 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 powertrain
In the standard version, the AMG GLS 63 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 mill that generates 604 hp and 850 Nm. However, things aren’t that peaceful when Brabus is involved. The tuner's PowerXtra B40 S-800 kit brings the power and torque output down to 800 hp and 1000 Nm.
The said kit includes two large turbochargers consisting of a modified core assembly and bigger compressors. All these revisions and more reduce the century sprint time from 4.2 seconds to 3.8 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 280 kmph. These figures are very impressive, especially after knowing that the SUV weighs around 2,600 kg.
Furthermore part of the Brabus 800 enhancement package are -
On performance front
- Brabus quad stainless steel high-performance exhaust kit with active flaps
- Tweaked Airmatic suspension (25 mm lower compared to the factory GLS 63)
- Massive 24-inch (10JJ) Brabus Monoblock M ‘Platinum Edition’ forged wheels wrapping 295/35 tyres
On design front
- Brabus front lip (it reduces front-axle lift at high speeds)
- Custom-made carbon-fibre air deflectors
- Custom-made carbon-fibre red-stripped radiator grille with illuminated Brabus emblem
On the inside
- Plush Brabus ‘breathable’ black leather upholstery with contrast stitching & red piping
- Arrow Wave quilting on seat and door panels
- Embroidered Brabus logo on six of seven head restraints
Steering wheel with upgraded aluminium shift paddles and red highlights
That's the Brabus 800 version of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS 63. What are your thoughts, do let us know in the comments.
