2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class arrives with a new plug-in hybrid engine

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class has received a slew of updates for 2024 ranging from exterior to interior to revised technology and equipment. The model lineup also benefits from updated electrified powertrains along with the addition of a new plug-in hybrid model. Let’s get to know all the changes in detail, starting with the exterior.

The new GLE boasts a unique grille pattern and restyled LED headlight graphics. The bumper also gets a revamp for a cleaner look and connects with the new wheels. Included in the latter are 19- and 20-inch sized options featuring a high-sheen finish and a five-twin-spoke design. Also new for 2024 are freshened tail-lamp graphics.

New additions to the GLE colour palette are Twilight Blue Metallic and MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey.

Inside the cabin, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE gets a new multi-function steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons, updated software for the central 12.3-inch MBUX infotainment unit, and more interior upholstery colour combinations. In terms of driver-assistance tech, it is now equipped with an enhanced adaptive cruise control system, a new Parking Package, a better 360-degree camera, Active Distance Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition. 

Rest of the equipment kit remains the same with the Burmester audio system, head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, powered seats with memory function, ambient lighting, and more.

Coming to the mechanical bits, Mercedes-Benz offers the upgraded GLE with the following engine options - 

• A new plug-in hybrid comprising a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 31.2-kWh battery pack. The setup generates a maximum power of 381 PS and a peak torque of 600 Nm
• Another plug-in hybrid with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel delivering 333 PS and 750 Nm.
• A mild-hybrid unit with a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol assisted by the ISG making 381 PS and 500 Nm 
• A 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel rated at 269 PS and 550 Nm
• A 3.0-litre diesel six churning out 367 PS and 750 Nm 

While the pricing for the all-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is yet to be announced, it will hit the US showrooms later this year.
