Lexus RX

The cabin of the Lexus RX has also witnessed a transformation with this fifth-generation version, with it having suede leather upholstery with Kageri L-pattern embossing as standard. This leather upholstery is complemented by black ash open-pore wood inserts in the RX 350 variant and F-Sport dark spin aluminium inserts in the RX 500h variant. 

The dashboard now has a unique driver-centric design with a new three-spoke, power-adjustable multi-functional steering wheel with a trapezoidal centre boss and memory function, behind which sits a new-age full-TFT instrument console with configurable screens. The centre console houses a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is home to a 12-speaker Lexus premium audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

The cabin of the Lexus RX is further enriched with premium bells and whistles like three-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, air purifier, 64-colour ambient lighting, head-up display, active noise and sound control, wireless charger, powered front and rear seats and headrests, ventilated and heated seats and a panoramic sunroof.

Continuing its crossover-like athletic stance, the Lexus RX has become even more dynamic and sharp-looking in its fifth-generation version. The front profile of the RX looks evolutionary new, with the grille in the middle now having a three-dimensional criss-cross spindle theme, with the gloss black inserts also extending in the C-shaped large housings for the LED fog lamps on the bumper corners.

The Lexus RX now gets an even sharper-looking 3-beam LED projector headlamps with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. The side profile also looks dynamic with the presence of 21-inch alloy wheels -diamond-cut units in the RX 350 and blacked-out units in the RX 500h, along with a curvaceous roofline and kinked window waistline. The rear profile also looks beautiful and revamped with the spelt-out Lexus badging in the middle and wide and stretched L-shaped LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar running across the boot lid. 

Both the variants of the Lexus RX have Macpherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, with the crossover having a slightly stiff and dynamic nature in its handling and ride quality, further complemented by the large 21-inch wheels. Equipped with adaptive variable suspension and all-wheel drive as standard, the Lexus RX also gets four driving modes – Normal, Eco, Sport and Custom. 

The Lexus RX 350 Luxury on sale has a conventional 2.4-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which produces a maximum power output of 275 bhp and a maximum torque output of 430 Nm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this engine gives a top speed of 200 kmph and a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 7.6 seconds to the RX 350.

On the other hand, the RX 500h has a 2.4-litre petrol engine (271 bhp of power and 460 Nm of torque) combined with a dual-motor setup, with the front motor producing 86 bhp power and 292 Nm torque and the rear motor producing 102 bhp power and 169 Nm torque. In the combined mode, this powertrain claims 366 bhp of maximum power, 210 kmph top speed and 6.2 seconds for the 0-100 kmph sprint. 

The Lexus RX gets a plethora of standard safety features, including a front pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control with stop and go function, lane keep assist with lane tracing assist and lane departure alert, adaptive high beam assist, road sign assist, active cornering assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle braking posture control, vehicle dynamics integrated management, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill start assist, trailer sway control, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, safe exit assist, blind sport monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking support brake and seven airbags.

With this fifth-generation version, the Lexus RX took control of all the shortcomings of its previous-generation version while retaining its edgy and tech-oriented image in an even better form.
