After a series of captivating teasers, the official distributor of Hyundai cars in Malaysia, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors has finally launched the Ioniq 6 electric sedan. It is the brand’s second Ioniq model, following the success of the Ioniq 5. The all-electric sedan holds three prestigious global awards under its belt - 2023 World Car of the Year, 2023 World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and 2023 World Car Design of the Year.

Included in the price is a standard 2-year/50,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty. By paying an extra RM 10,000, customers can upgrade the standard warranty to a 5-year/100,000 km coverage, which comes with a 3-year/50,000 km of complimentary service.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 dimensions
Based on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform, the EV measures 4,855 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The rear luggage capacity is measured at 401 litres. However, the front cargo capacity varies between the two variants, with the Max RWD boasting a larger front compartment of 45 litres, while the Max AWD settles for 14.5 litres.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 drivetrain, range, and charging
The base-spec Ioniq 6 comes equipped with a single rear-wheel-drive electric motor, generating a maximum power of 225 hp and a peak torque of 350 Nm, enabling the EV to hit the century sprint in 7.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 185 kmph.
The top-spec Max AWD, on the other hand, carries a dual motor setup making a total of 320 hp and 605 Nm. The power is sent to all four wheels, which accelerates the sedan from zero to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds (2.3 seconds quicker than the RWD), however, the top speed remains the same at 185 kmph.
Both trims are powered by the same high-capacity 77.4 kW lithium-ion polymer battery pack, providing WLTP ranges of 614 km (RWD) and 519 km (AWD).
“The IONIQ 6 is the current pinnacle of Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) line-up in terms of technology, range, efficiency, and performance, thanks to its state-of-the-art Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is one of the few EVs on the planet with an 800-volt architecture, letting it accept up to 350 kW DC charging, which would make possible a 10% to 80% charge time of just 18 minutes. In fact, the IONIQ 6 is one of the world’s fastest-charging EVs, said Sime Darby Motors Managing Director of Retail and Distribution for Malaysia Mr Jeffrey Gan.
“This is Hyundai’s third EV model in Malaysia and its most advanced one yet, further solidifying Hyundai as an eminent EV brand and one that is committed to advancing cutting-edge, zero-emissions mobility for a new generation of discerning customers,” he added.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 exterior
Dubbed as the electrified streamliner, the Korean EV sports a sleek design with clean, simple lines and a pure aerodynamic form. According to HSDM Managing Director Mr. Low Yuan Lung. “Its fastback profile and curvaceous shape are the result of extensive wind tunnel testing, such that it achieves a very low 0.21 drag coefficient. Not only is it the most aerodynamic Hyundai ever – it’s one of the world’s most aerodynamic vehicles on sale today.”
The sedan features Parametric Pixel LED projection headlights with LED DRLs, Parametric Pixel LED tail lights, flush door handles, a powered boot lid, a high-mounted stop lamp, digital side-view cameras, and 18-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels. With the top-spec variant, comes the bigger 20-inch ‘Performance’ alloys and a sunroof.
