2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid launched in Malaysia at RM 427,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Maserati entered the world of electrification last year with the introduction of the Ghibli Hybrid, which has now hit the Malaysian market. Naza Italia-Maserati, the sole distributor of Maserati cars in Malaysia recently launched the electrified premium sports sedan at a starting price tag of RM 427,800 (before local duties and taxes). It retails the higher-spec GranSport trim for RM 456,800.  

“The choice to introduce the hybrid technology on the Ghibli sedan is not a coincidence: this model, with over 100,000 units produced globally since its launch in 2013, perfectly embodies the Modena-based manufacturer’s DNA. In fact, the real challenge that Maserati faced was to enter the world of electrification without altering the brand's core philosophy and values. The result is the creation of the best possible hybrid. What's more, Ghibli Hybrid will retain the unmistakable sound that has always distinguished every Maserati, said Dato’ Nik Hamdam, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings.

Under the hood, the Ghibli Hybrid is equipped with an innovative powertrain that has been fully developed by Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena.  It combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger, supported by a battery. The latter is mounted in the rear of the car for improved weight distribution. 

This unique setup generates a maximum power output of 330 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm from just 2,250 rpm. In terms of performance, the sports sedan runs from zero to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and attains a top speed of 255 kmph.

Design-wise, the electrified Ghibli looks different from the standard model. Upfront, we can see a revamped grille. The blue accents on side air ducts, Brembo brake calipers, and the brand’s logo on the rear pillar symbolize the electric nature of the car. Also new are the boomerang-like lighting signature for the tail lights. 

Just like the exterior, the Maserati Ghibli Hybrid cabin also features splashes of blue color. We can see the blue stitching all-around and a blue trident logo embroidered on the seat headrests. Standard features include a digital instrument panel, a 10.1-inch Android-based infotainment system, 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Premium Surround sound system, and advanced driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control blind spot monitor, autonomous emergency braking, and more.

Included in the GranSport design package are full-LED Matrix headlights, sporty bumpers, bigger 20-inch wheels (18-inch as standard), Nerissimo black highlights, sports seats, and a sports steering wheel.

Maserati Ghibli Hybrid comes with a three-year/unlimited-mileage warranty and a three-year/60,000-km free maintenance pack as standard.
