2020 Range Rover Evoque launched in Malaysia; price starts at RM 426,828

KUALA LUMPUR: When it comes to stylish SUVs, there's no denying that the Range Rover Evoque is among the top ones. The second-generation of this gorgeous SUV has landed in Malaysia through a Livestream premiere today. The new Evoque is the most capable and refined compact SUV with a Smart AI System, says Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia. Let's see hows the new Evoque?

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque comes in two variants - Evoque base and Evoque R-Dynamic, priced at RM 426,828 and RM 475,398, respectively ( including 50% SST exemption and excluding car registration, insurance, and road tax).

In terms of exterior design, the new iteration is based on the model's instantly-recognizable pattern. However, Land Rover designers sophisticatedly evolved its original's distinctive coupe-like silhouette. Other aesthetic improvements include new slim LED headlights and taillights, as well as flush door handles.

On the other hand, Evoque R-Dynamic trim features some more styling enhancements, including burnished copper accents on the front and rear bumpers, and front fender inserts that add to the vehicle's unique appeal.

A notable increase of 21 mm in wheelbase increases the rear legroom and knee room and also made the boot 10% larger at 591 litres. However, the other dimensions are increased by a slight margin.

Coming to Evoque's digital interior experience, in the centre you will see a new InControl® Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that combines two sleek 10-inch HD glass touchscreens and a 12.3-inch driver display behind the steering wheel. It is fitted with a Smart Settings system, that uses AI algorithms to learn a driver's preferences to automate comfort.

Other hi-tech goodies added to Evoque specs sheet are 380-watt Meridian sound system with 11 speakers, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, a power-adjustable steering column, a reverse camera, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Specific features of the top-spec R-Dynamic include two-tone leather finishing, dark aluminum trim, a black headliner, chrome side sill plates and metal pedals, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera system. It also features the ClearSight digital rear-view mirror and the ClearSight Ground View for better visibility under the front end of the vehicle.

Both variants are powered by the same 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine tuned to produce different output levels. The standard model produces 200 PS at 5,500 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm, while the top-spec trim churns out 249 PS and 365 Nm. A nine-speed automatic gearbox comes as standard in both variants

The standard Evoque takes 8.5 seconds for a 0-100 kmph sprint and tops out at 216 kmph, whereas the R-Dynamic can do the run one second early i.e., 7.5 sec and carries a top speed of 230 kmph.

The new Evoque also boasts an All-Wheel Drive with Driveline Disconnect technology that disengages the rear axle when cruising to save fuel and seamlessly reengages it to increase traction when needed.

2020 Range Rover Evoque standard safety bits comprise lane-keeping assist, a driver attention monitor, parking assist, and a door opening warning. However, the R-Dynamic also gets autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

The new Range Rover Evoque comes with a five-year/150,000 km warranty, a five-year/65,000 km free service package, and three years of roadside assistance. JLR is offering accessory vouchers worth RM 3,000 that can be used to purchase original accessories for the new Evoque, but only for a limited time.
