2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach S 560 and S 650 launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Today we saw a slew of launches by Mercedes-Benz. We are talking about the refreshed Mercedes-Maybach S 560 and S 650. It is a longer and more luxurious version of the S-Class S 450 L launched today too. Just to give you an idea on the length, it has a wheelbase of 3,365 mm, which is 200 mm more than the long-wheelbase S-Class.

On the exterior, the Maybach S-Class sports a new grille design and a different bumper. The headlights and taillights are the same as seen in the S-Class. It rides on huge and shiny 20-inch multi spoke alloys. With the iconic Maybach badge on the C-pillars, and the chrome window surrounds, a strip of chrome on the lower side of the doors accentuates its length.

Inside the S 560, you get black Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery on plush ventilated seats. The front of the cabin is almost the same S-Class with the leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, quad centre air vents, dual 12.3-inch display panels, and COMMAND controls down the centre.

The rear seats, on the other hand, are truly designed to be a first class experience. Other notable features here include dual-panel panoramic sunroof with Magic Sky Control, Night View Assist Plus, Energising comfort control with Thermotronic function and Air Balance package. There is a 27-speaker Burmester high-end 3D surround music system for a realistic live-concert like sound.

The S 560 gets a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine which produces 469 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The S 650 is powered by a 6.0-litre turbocharged V12 petrol engine with 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. This S 560 engine is paired with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission, while the S 650 instead gets old 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic. The S 560 can do 0 to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds, but the S 650 is quicker at 4.7 seconds. Both have the same top speed of 250 kmph. It now comes with the Magic Body Control function which works in tandem with Road Surface Scan technology.

For safety, the Maybach S 560 and S 650 get ten airbags, active rear seat belt buckle, autonomous emergency assist, interior motion sensor with anti-theft alarm system, and semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The owners can choose up to nine different colour combinations with two-tone shades. Dark-coloured paints will receive a clear secondary coat, adding further luster for a brilliant ‘piano lacquer’ finish. This process is handmade by specially trained varnishers at the Maybach Manufaktur.
