Suzuki teases the upcoming Hayabusa GP Edition

KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced in 1999 as the fastest production motorcycle, the Suzuki Hayabusa is a legend amongst motorcycle enthusiasts all over the world. While this iconic hyperbike remains in the headlines every now and then, the latest buzz is that it will soon get a special edition version.

    As the brand has recently announced its exit from the MotoGP world championship to redirect the funds towards sustainability, the upcoming GP Edition will be paying tribute to the Suzuki ECSTAR racing team.

    Here’s what we know so far about the 2022 Suzuki Hayabusa GP Edition -

    • The special model will be wrapped in the liveries inspired by the GSX-RR MotoGP bike; one features a combination of silver red and blue while the other has yellow, silver and blue colours. It will also incorporate the iconic Kanji logo.
    • The bike will also flaunt Alex Rins and 2020 title winner Joan Mir's racing numbers with striking accents

    Hayabusa GP edition

    • It will be equipped with an upright windscreen, aerodynamic fairing with vents,  a muscular fuel tank, dual exhausts, and a split-type seat
    • A semi-digital console and 17-inch alloy wheels are also likely to be parts of the kit.
    • While the mechanical details of the machine are not yet known, the expectations hover around a re-tuned version of the existing 1,340-cc, DOHC, inline-four engine which delivers a maximum power of 190 PS and a peak torque of 150 Nm in the standard tune

    Hayabusa

    • As for the suspension, it will be loaded with inverted front forks and a preload-adjustable rear mono-shock unit.
    • The braking duties will be performed by front and rear disc brakes, along with an anti-lock braking system
    • The electronic kit will also feature ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, five riding modes and cruise control
