VW Arteon scheduled for an October launch

KUALA LUMPUR: It was at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show that the Volkswagen Arteon made its global debut. Shortly after that, it made an appearance in Malaysia in November 2018. Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia, the official custodian of VW cars in Malaysia opened bookings for the Arteon in July 2019.

The VW Arteon underpins the company’s Modular Transverse Matrix platform, and its dimension sheet reads - 4,862 mm X 1,871 mm X 1,427 mm (L X W X H). The wheelbase rests at 2,841 mm. The car rides on 19-inch Montevideo wheels that are wrapped in 245/40R19 tyres both at front and rear. It features the R-Line body kit.

The extended exterior dimensions transcend to the interior that offers 1,016 mm of legroom. The luggage compartment can take in 565-litre with the rear seat up when folded the capacity moves up to 1,557-litre.

Powering the upcoming VW Arteon is a 2.0-litre TSI powerplant that poops out 280 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed DSG wet dual-clutch gearbox along with 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

The sedan comes with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) tech that comprises of five driving modes - Normal, Eco, Sport, Comfort, and Individual. The DCC modes work with XDS electronic differential lock.

On the inside, the Arteon offers advanced tech like a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system with gesture control, an Active Info Display digital instrument panel, and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The safety kit comprises of a 360-degree view camera setup, six airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, traction control, and electronic stability control.

The Malaysian-spec model will be offered in eight exterior color options - Pyrite Silver, Manganese Grey, Oryx White Pearl, Deep Black, Urano Grey, Reflex Silver, Turmeric Yellow, and Romance Red.

With the estimated price range of RM 290,000 to RM 310,000, the VW Arteon is expected to launch in Malaysia in October.
