The Volvo EX90 represents a significant leap for the Swedish brand as its first fully electric seven-seater SUV available globally. Positioned at the very top of Volvo’s lineup, the EX90 introduces an advanced computing architecture and the latest safety technologies, with software updates designed to enhance vehicle performance over time.

Performance-wise, the EX90 boasts an impressive electric driving range of over 600 kilometers, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in under five seconds, and features premium touches like a Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
It also offers practical luxury with seven electrically operated seats that fold away at the press of a button to increase cargo space.
Meanwhile, the facelifted XC90 plug-in hybrid builds upon Volvo’s successful first-ever SUV. Popular for its practicality, this latest version marks the first major update to the XC90 since its current generation launched a decade ago.

It introduces refreshed styling and an upgraded user interface to align more closely with Volvo’s latest electric offerings.
Volvo XC90 Facelift
The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift features several important updates. Externally, it gets a new diagonal-striped grille, redesigned headlights with updated “Thor’s Hammer” LEDs, a more sculpted bonnet, refreshed bumpers, new alloy wheels (20 to 22 inches), and revised rear lighting.
Inside, the dashboard now incorporates premium recycled materials and a new 11.2-inch Google-powered infotainment system with OTA updates, Google Play apps, and Google Maps. Updates include redesigned vertical AC vents, revised ambient lighting, additional storage, a repositioned wireless charging pad, and an optional six-seat layout with second-row captain's chairs.

Under the hood, traditional petrol and diesel engines are replaced entirely by hybrid powertrains. The plug-in hybrid combines a 310 PS petrol engine and a 145 PS electric motor, delivering 455 PS total and 63-71 km electric range from an 18.8 kWh battery. Two mild hybrids (250 PS and 299 PS) are also available.
Suspension improvements include standard adaptive dampers and optional air suspension with active chassis, plus added insulation for reduced noise.
Safety upgrades continue Volvo’s legacy, featuring autonomous braking, Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, run-off road protection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Volvo EX90
Since Volvo Car Malaysia mentioned the EX90’s launch in Thailand, we can assume it will feature similar specifications to its Thai counterpart, which includes two variants with different power outputs.
The base model, known there as the Twin Motor Plus, delivers 408 PS and 770 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The higher-spec Twin Motor Performance Ultra bumps power up to 517 PS and 910 Nm, reducing the century sprint time to just 4.9 seconds.

Both models feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, a 111 kWh battery (107 kWh usable) offering approximately 600 km range (WLTP), and a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h.
Charging capability is impressive, with 11 kW AC charging fully replenishing the battery in about 10 hours, while DC fast charging at 250 kW allows a rapid charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Standard features for Thailand-spec EX90 models include 20-inch wheels, LED headlights, panoramic glass roof, a 9” digital meter panel, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and 14-speaker Bose audio system.

The premium Ultra variants add adaptive air suspension, pixel LED headlights with active high beam, massaging front seats, and an upgraded 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins 3D audio system.
Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, noted, “With the imminent introduction of the Volvo EX90 and new XC90 for Malaysia, we are making good progress towards our global ambitions of 90 to 100 percent electrified car sales before the end of the decade. Last year, our BEV and PHEV models already made up more than 80 percent of our sales.”

He added, “The EX90 is a compelling addition to our current BEV portfolio of compact SUVs as it represents an option for owners who require more space, luxury, comfort and technology in a powerful, fully electric package. The EX90 complements the new, facelifted XC90 as the best of Volvo with our unwavering focus on safety to give you the freedom to move.”
