Volkswagen Arteon - All you need to know
Next month, i.e., in October we’ll have the all-new Arteon in the Malaysian market. The VW sedan made its global debut in 2017 at the Geneva Auto Show and is the successor of the coupe-roofed VW CC. The upcoming Arteon made its first local appearance in the year 2018 and shortly after that in July 2019 the German automaker opened its booking log. The car would be arriving in Malaysia as a fully-imported unit and will be manufactured at the company’s Emden facility in Germany.
Now that the VW Arteon is all set to make its local debut, here’s all the information we know -
1. Platform and dimensions
The Volkswagen Arteon sedan underpins the German automaker’s Modular Transverse Matrix platform. The measuring tape on the Arteon reads 4,862 mm in length, 1,871 mm in width, and 1,427 mm in height. The wheelbase and ground clearance measures 2,841 mm and 137 mm, respectively.
2. Stylish design
The upcoming Arteon is a work of modern art that one could feel and enjoy. In all, one can say that it’s part sculpture and part automobile. The sedan features a classic fastback design - the roofline smoothly slopes down and merges seamlessly with the rear end, thus, conveying both performance ad stye. Making the new VW so much stunning is its muscular stance, wide chrome grille that blends into the LED setup, and frameless window, all create an unforgettable front design. The R-Line that was showcased in Malaysia comes with a larger convey of swagger and style, and it runs on 19-inch or 20-inch wheels. Helping with the illumination bit is the LED headlight which comes with LED DRLs and LED taillights.
3. Cabin comfort
Open the gates of the all-new Arteon, and you’ll be greeted by the high-levels of comfort and convenience features. All this and more make it a premium sedan with a spacious and plush cabin. Adding to the passenger comfort are the heated front seats that can keep you warm on those chilly mornings and cold nights. Also, the three different settings help one find the perfect comfort zone. Besides, the heated steering wheel keeps the hands warm and looks great too. The front seats are stylish and comfortable, and it comes with driver-massaging and ventilated feature. The 3-zone Climatronic automatic climate control system features three separate temperature controls, thus keeping all happy and satisfied.
4. Advanced equipment inside, out
Apart from the stylish exterior and interior design, the car comes with some hi-tech features that only make the ride fun and easy. Part of this list is - Adaptive Front Lighting System, all-weather lights with a low-speed corner-illuminating feature, hands-free open and close hatch, power-operated side mirrors, ORVMs with memory and haeted feature, rain-sensing windshield wipers, coming/leaving home feature and more.
On the inside one can find an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, Active Info Display digital instrument panel, cruise control, front-seat with adjustable ambient lighting, a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system with gesture control and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPaly, interior ambient lighting, black headliner, scuff plates, and stainless steel pedal.
5. Performance
The all-new VW Arteon is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI, in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged mill with direct fuel injection abd intercooler. The engine churns out a maximum power of 280 PS along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. Sending power to all four wheels is a 7-speed DSG wet dual-clutch gearbox along with a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
Helping the driver with whole fun of commuting is the switchable drive mode thanks to the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC). The DCC works with XDS electronic differential lock and comprises of five driving modes - Normal, Individual, Comfort, Eco, and Sport modes.
Besides, there are several driver assistance techs like - keyless access with push-button start, remote start, Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect, premium color Multifunction Display (MFD), Volkswagen digital cockpit, Dynaudio premium sound system, Lane Change Assistant, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, High Beam Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, Pedestrian Monitoring, Parking Steering Assistant, Park Distance Control, Overhead View Camera, driver personalization, and electric parking brake.
6. Safety kit
Volkswagen has fitted the Arteon sedan with some advanced and hi-tech safety features. Included in the list is a rearview camera system, six airbags including a side curtain protection head airbags, front safety belts, height-adjustable with pre-tensioners and load limiters, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) child seat anchor points, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), and Engine Brake Assist (EBA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
7. Color options & expected price
The Malaysian-spec model will be offered in eight color options - Pyrite Silver, Manganese Grey, Oryx White Pearl, Deep Black, Turmeric Yellow, Reflex Silver, Urano Grey, and Romance Red. Though we don’t still know the actual price tag, it is estimated to cost between RM 290,000 - RM 310,000.
