Top 7 new features of the upcoming 2023 Toyota Vios

UMW Toyota has recently opened bookings for the highly anticipated fourth-gen Vios in Malaysia. It hosts a number of significant improvements over its predecessor making it an even more appealing and desirable option for car enthusiasts. 

The upgraded B-segment sedan underpins a new platform (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) that lends it a larger footprint with increased length, width, and height. Adding to this are mature and sleek exterior styling and the upgraded feature kit. Estimated pricing for the all-new Toyota Vios in Malaysia starts at RM 90,000, which is almost RM 8k higher than the outgoing model. Each purchase will be accompanied by a five-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer’s warranty.

New wheels

The revamped Vios ditched the older 16-inch alloy wheels in favour of the new 17-inch units. The latest rims look stylish and elevate the side profile of the midsize sedan. 

New infotainment system

The new Vios benefits from a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes paired with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The latter makes the process of connecting your phone to the car's infotainment system convenient and offers seamless access to your favourite apps, music, and maps quickly and easily.

Upgraded Toyota Safety Sense suite

The upcoming Vios is packed with an upgraded suite of the company’s advanced-driver assistance pack, called Toyota Safety Sense. It now includes -

• Pre-Collision System: Helps drivers avoid or reduce the severity of a collision 
• Lane Departure Warning: Offers a warning when the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane without a turn signal 
• Lane Departure Prevention: Works in conjunction with Lane Departure Warning and helps prevent unintentional lane departure
• Lane Keeping Control: Helps driver maintain their position within the lane
• Front Departure Alert: Notifies the driver when the vehicle in front of the car starts moving while driving in a jam or standing at the traffic light
• Auto High Beam: Automatically switches the high and low beams depending on the brightness of the car’s surroundings
• Adaptive Cruise Control: Detects the speed and distance of vehicles running ahead and automatically adjusts the car's speed to maintain a safe following distance

Paddle shifters

Paddle shifters, a popular feature available on high-performance vehicles, have now made their way to the new Toyota Vios. Mounted on the steering wheel, these small shifters allow you to shift gears without using a clutch pedal or taking your hands off the steering wheel. It offers more control over the vehicle's performance and thus can be useful for the ones who want a more engaging driving experience.

Electronic Parking Brake

In place of the conventional handbrake lever, the new Vios gains the electronic parking brake system with auto brake hold. It is easier to apply and release the brake with precision. This system can also work in tandem with other safety gears like hill start assist and automatic emergency braking. It also frees up space in the cabin and improves the overall design of the central console.

3 Drive modes

Earlier, the Vios comprised two drive modes - viz. Eco and Sport. But now, the number of modes has been increased to three, Power being the newly added one. Here’s what each mode offers -

• Eco mode: It helps in gaining improved fuel efficiency by reducing throttle response
• Sport mode: It offers an enhanced level of performance with a more responsive and sportier driving experience
• Power mode: It provides maximum power output from the engine with a faster acceleration 

Rear AC vents

For the first time, Toyota equipped the Vios with rear AC vents that meant added comfort for the passengers sitting in the back seats of the car with a direct source of cool air making it more comfortable for them during hot weather or long drives. The rear air vents also help in 

circulating the air inside the car, resulting in a more even temperature throughout the cabin.
