Thailand gets the all-new Subaru WRX & WRX Wagon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center is one of Thailand’s largest convention centres and exhibition halls. And recently in conjunction with the Big Motor Sale event, it became the launch spot for two of Subaru’s best sellers, the WRX and WRX Wagon.

Subaru first introduced the all-new 2022 WRX last year in September, in the United States. Back then the 5th gen model impressed everyone with an extensive redesign, powerful engine, and a new platform. The model launched in Thailand is no different and doesn’t fail to impress either.

2022 Subaru WRX

The new Subaru WRX underpinned the Subaru Global Platform and is powered by the massive 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. In the Thai-spec model, the mill generates a maximum power of 271 hp at 5,600 rpm along with a peak torque of 350 Nm from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm. The automaker offers its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system as standard and for transmission options, the customers can choose between a six-speed manual or a CVT dubbed Subaru Performance Transmission units.

The Thai-spec WRX is offered in two variants - 2.999 million baht (RM 371,974) worth manual WRX and 3.099 million baht costing CVT WRX.

The car’s standard kit includes - LED headlamps, LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 4.2-inch multi-info display, an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, manually adjustable front seats, seven airbags, and Vehicle Dynamic Control with three modes (Normal, Off, and Track).

The range-topping CVT variant adds the following features to the above-mentioned kit - Si-Drive transmission modes, paddle shifters, an 8-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, and an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold. The safety kit gets the EyeSight suite of driver assistance systems including, a blind spot monitor, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front vehicle departure alert, and automatic high beam.

Subaru Thailand is offering the WRX in nine striking hues - Ignition Red, Ceramic White Pearl, Solar Orange Pearl, Crystal White, World Rally Blue Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, and Magnetic Grey Metallic.

2022 Subaru WRX Wagon

The WRX Wagon is nothing but a second-gen Levorg with a powerful WRX engine. So, it gets the same 271hp/350 Nm 2.4-litre turbo mill which is paired to a CVT unit. At 2.959 million baht (RM 367,012), the WRX Wagon is cheaper than the base WRX model.

The WRX Wagon specs sheet reflects the same features as the range-topping Wagon CVT trim, making it an attractive choice for its price.

The only difference, however, is the absence of the Solar Orange Pearl hue from the exterior colour options.

2022 Subaru WRX & WRX Wagon in Malaysia

Subaru Malaysia's line-up will include the all-new WRX and WRX Wagon by the end of this year. The two models were showcased by Motor Image during the launch of XV last December.
