Subaru WRX Wagon

The cabin of the Subaru WRX Wagon has a functional and simple-looking layout, with some of the most modern features one can find in a vehicle of its price and segment. The cabin here comes standard with an all-black look, with the top variant getting Ultrasuede leather upholstery, contrasted by red stitching.

The analogue instrument console with a TFT MID in between the gauges might look simple, but the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with STI logo, flat bottom design and red stitching looks and feels good. The centre console here gets a massive portrait-style 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The middle layer of the dashboard on the co-passenger side looks sleek, while the car also gets sporty aluminium pedals in the top variant.

The spacious cabin of the Subaru WRX Wagon also gets a good number of features, such as a powered tailgate, ambient lighting, 8-way powered front seats with heating function, electronically-foldable rear seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The Subaru WRX Wagon shares much with its sedan counterpart, especially at the front. Though the differences begin to be visible while moving towards the rear, where it has a more functional and practical station wagon layout with a closed-body design.

At the front, the Subaru WRX Wagon has a hexagonal grille in the middle, which comes with a honeycomb mesh design and a sleek chrome garnish running in between. The C-shaped sweptback headlamps here come with all-LED illumination, including daytime running LEDs. The front bumper might not look too aggressive in its appearance, but it manages to make the Subaru WRX Wagon look bold with its angular housings for the fog lamps.

The Subaru WRX Wagon has a nice planted and long profile when viewed from the side, with the station wagon offering a slightly sloping-down roofline and muscular haunches over the front and rear fenders. While the base and GT variants get the same set of machined alloy wheels, the tS variant gets an upsized set of diamond-cut alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Subaru WRX Wagon gets the same set of slim-looking C-shaped LED tail lamps on the far edges of the boot design as those of the WRX STI sedan. However, the rear windscreen here is large and more angular, adjacent to the boot lid, giving it a traditional hatch look at the back. The Subaru WRX Wagon also comes with twin exhaust pipes – one on either side, popping below the rear bumper.

The Subaru WRX Wagon misses out on the finesse of its sedan counterpart by a minute margin when it comes to the pure balance of ride and handling. The Subaru WRX Wagon comes with Macpherson struts at the front and a double wishbone at the rear, which offers well-balanced stability and ride comfort. The all-wheel-drive system, which is the highlight of the fantastic chassis of the Subaru WRX Wagon, works flawlessly.

The only engine and gearbox combination employed on duty under the hood of the Subaru WRX Wagon is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged Boxer engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine feels lively and responsive with a maximum power output of 270 PS and a peak torque output of 350 Nm. However, the Subaru WRX Wagon doesn’t come with an automatic transmission even as an option.

In the Subaru WRX Wagon, one can find features like electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, auto vehicle hold, electronic parking brake, reverse camera, blind spot monitoring system, EyeSight assists monitor, front view monitor, high beam assist, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking.

Much like all the other Subarus on sale in the world, the WRX Wagon also offers a great sense of accomplishment behind the steering wheel, while being a practical and spacious place to be in with loads of space and features.
