Tesla Malaysia begins Model 3 deliveries; launches Premium Connectivity service

KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla Malaysia has started the deliveries of the Model 3, which was launched in the country last month. The delivery ceremony took place at the brand’s Cyberjaya Experience Centre where a total of 20 customers received the keys to their new Tesla ride. Additional units of the electric vehicle are scheduled to be delivered in the coming days.

The Tesla Model 3 is offered in two variants in Malaysia - Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range AWD, priced at RM 189,000 and RM 218,000, respectively. The Rear-Wheel Drive is powered by a single electric motor that enables the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 6.1 seconds and achieves a top speed of 201 kmph. It provides a driving range of 513 km (on the WLTP cycle).

On the contrary, the Long Range AWD variant comes equipped with a dual-motor setup and a bigger battery pack with a cruising range of 629 km. When it comes to performance, it completes the century sprint in 4.4 seconds. The top speed remains the same at 201 kmph.

Alongside commencing the Model 3 deliveries, the American EV manufacturer also launched the Premium Connectivity in Malaysia. The expanded internet connectivity service is offered to private owners through the Tesla mobile app at RM 35.99 per month.

Tesla Premium Connectivity enables customers to access audio and video streaming services directly from the vehicle’s onboard displays without a mobile hotspot or a separate Wi-Fi connection. However, certain streaming services like Netflix may still require an independent subscription.

With the expanded internet connectivity subscription also comes several exclusive features such as satellite-view maps and live traffic visualisation. 

The Premium Connectivity is available for both Tesla models in Malaysia viz. Model 3 and Model Y on a free trial basis for the first 30 days upon delivery. 

Those who don’t want the Premium Connectivity can enjoy the Standard Connectivity at no cost for the first eight years, which provides access to over-the-air updates, voice commands, and basic maps and navigation features.
