What are upcoming Proton cars in 2025?
Proton eMAS 5 EV, Proton eMAS 7 PHEV, and the new Proton Saga are some of the upcoming Proton cars in 2025.Here's a list of Proton cars expected to launch in 2025.
Proton eMAS 7 PHEV
In September 2024, Proton filed three trademarks for its NEV sub-brand eMAS; one of which is the eMAS 7 PHEV. The name suggests that the automaker is likely to bring the plug-in hybrid version of the fully battery-operated eMAS 7.
As per the market reports, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is anticipated to be based on the Geely Galaxy Starship 7, which is a plug-in hybrid sibling to the Geely Galaxy E5 (on which the eMAS 7 EV is based).
The Starship 7 comes equipped with a new NordThor EM-i plug-in powertrain comprising a 111 PS/136 Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, P1 integrated starter-generator, P3 drive motor, and an 11-to-1 electrified dedicated hybrid transmission (E-DHT). The setup kicks out a maximum power of 218 PS and 262 Nm, enabling the SUV to hit the century sprint in 7.5 seconds. Also part of the kit is a 19.09 kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of 120 km.
In terms of features, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 boasts a 14.8-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.8-inch head-up display, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
New Proton eMAS EV
Another Proton model that is expected to hit the brand’s showrooms this year is an EV. Yes, Proton’s second EV. The automaker confirmed the arrival of the next electric car at the opening ceremony of the Proton eMas Petaling Jaya outlet.
So, what is the Proton’s upcoming EV? While the model's identity remains a mystery as of now, it is widely speculated to be the Proton eMAS 5 electric hatchback. Compared to the eMAS 7, the eMAS 5 is smaller and more affordable and is expected to be based on the Geely Xingyuan as the latter was showcased to Proton dealers last year.
Launched in October 2024 in China, the Geely Xingyuan is similar to the BYD Dolphin in terms of size. Entry-level models come with a 78-hp electric motor and a 30.12 kWh LFP battery pack, providing a CLTC-claimed driving range of 310 km. A more powerful 114-hp e-motor mated to a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery is also available, lifting the range to 410 km.
The Proton eMAS 5 is likely to be priced below RM 100,000 with the Perodua’s upcoming EV in its sights.
Next-gen Proton Saga
Proton is also geared up to give an update to its best-selling model, the Saga. As per the market reports, the all-new Proton Saga is expected to be released towards the end of 2025. While details remain unofficial, the upcoming sedan version is likely to be underpinned by the upgraded AMA platform, designed for mass-market products and anticipated to ramp up production under Proton’s AHTV initiative.
Some images of the new Proton Saga were reportedly leaked in November 2024, which hint at aggressive exterior enhancements and more advanced tech with a larger infotainment system and new Advanced Driving Assistance Systems. The new iteration will possibly feature a modernized 1.5L NA drivetrain mated to a CVT gearbox, offering better efficiency and smoother performance.
Proton X50 facelift
Yes, we know that Proton upgraded its beloved SUV in 2024, but that was just a Running Change. So, now in 2025, it is expected that the company will bring a more comprehensive upgrade to the table, making the SUV even more desirable.
The update might introduce significant changes in both design and features. The new design can get inspiration from the new "Energy Storm" design philosophy of the X50’s donor model, the Geely Binyue. Under the skin, the new X50 can get a new 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged engine seen on the most recent Binyue. The said mill produced a maximum power of 181 hp.
So, that was a closer look at what Proton may bring up to the stage in 2025. For further updates on these upcoming Proton cars, stay tuned with us.
