Proton wraps up Q1 2024 with nearly 40k sales
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has unveiled its sales figures for March and the first quarter of 2024, showcasing a positive trend for the renowned Malaysian automaker. In March alone, the company sold a total of 12,666 units (including exports), making a substantial contribution to its overall sales for the first quarter, which amounted to 39,150 units.

The best-selling Proton car in Q1 2024 is the Saga, with a total of 18,247 units sold, marking its strongest Q1 performance in 12 years.With those numbers, Proton continues to maintain its position as the second best-selling carmaker in Malaysia by the end of the quarter. It secured an estimated market share of 19.3%.
The individual performance of Proton models is as follows -
- The Saga maintained its position as Proton's top-selling model, with 5,906 units sold in March, contributing to its year-to-date sales of 18,247 units and marking its strongest Q1 performance in 12 years
- Following closely was the S70 sedan, which delivered 2,072 units last month (with a year-to-date total of 5,828 units), including 35 units for export, although this represented a slight decrease compared to February
- The Persona secured the third spot with 1,665 units sold in March, contributing to its year-to-date sales of 5,370 units and maintaining a steady performance
- The X50 recorded 1,626 units sold in March, adding to its year-to-date sales of 5,444 units and maintaining a competitive position within the brand’s lineup
- The X70 experienced a significant improvement in sales volume, with 603 units sold in March representing a 35.5% increase compared to February. The year-to-date sales stood at 1,420 units
- The Iriz achieved 468 units in sales for March, contributing to its year-to-date total of 1,534 units
- Lastly, the X90 saw 326 units delivered in March, bringing its year-to-date sales to 1,065 units
“The first quarter of 2024 ended positively for Proton and with no external factors encouraging sales growth this year, the numbers achieved offer a more accurate reading of market demand. The automotive industry in Malaysia continues to be buoyant, and this is evident by the overall growth in TIV,” said Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar.
“For the rest of the year, Proton will look for continued sales growth by working closely with our vendors to produce more units of our best-selling models, such as the Proton Saga and Proton S70, while continuing to build our export sales volume. We are confident of meeting our growth targets while also working towards our other commitments such as the development and introduction of our own EV model in the future,” he added.
