KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the best-selling Proton cars?
Proton's top three-selling cars are the Saga, X50, and Persona. When will the Proton e.MAS 7 EV launch?
The Proton e.MAS 7 EV is expected to launch in December. The company’s year-to-date total sales stand at 125,557 units, as it strives to achieve a sixth consecutive year of sales growth. The market share is estimated at 18.1% for the month and 18.9% for the whole of 2024.
Let’s now have a look at the individual performance of Proton cars -
Proton Saga
Malaysia’s first homegrown vehicle introduced in 1985, the Proton Saga is still a popular choice for car buyers. It remained the brand’s best-selling model last month as well with a total of 6,112 deliveries. The YTD sales of the sedan have exceeded 60,178 units, which makes it the third-highest volume vehicle in the country. It is likely to break the 70k mark for a second successive year.
Proton X50
Malaysia’s favourite SUV, the X50, maintained its leading position in the B-segment SUV category despite a slew of competitors. The automaker delivered 2,122 units of the SUV last month with a total sales of 19,122 units so far in 2024.
Proton X90
Proton’s three-seater SUV, the X90, continued to enjoy its dominance in the D-segment SUV category with 245 units sold last month. The automaker has delivered 2,969 X90s so far this year.
Proton X70
Sales of Proton’s pioneering SUV, the X70, dropped last month, with only 989 units sold in October. The year-to-date sales stand at 6,471 units.
Proton S70
The S70 led the C-segment sedan category with 1,432 units sold last month. The year-to-date sales stand at 16,200 units. Proton hopes the S70 will gain further momentum with the S70 R3 leading the charge at the Sepang 1000km Endurance Race from 22-24 November.
Proton Persona
Proton’s B-segment sedan, the Persona, contributed 1,520 units to the automaker’s October sales with a year-to-date figure standing at 15,931 units.
Proton Iriz
The Iriz hatchback chipped in 379 units to monthly sales with a total year-to-date sales of 4,443 units.
“The final quarter of 2024 will be a challenging time for automotive players. An influx of new brands and products together with the drive to meet sales targets and end the year strongly will see multiple offers for new car buyers. In the short term, this will result in a second consecutive year of TIV exceeding 800,000 units, but it is an unsustainable long-term business strategy and affects residual values. Therefore, PROTON remains focused on ensuring we preserve the value of our customers’ cars by raising product quality and delivering a class-leading sales and service experience via our 157 3S/4S outlets nationwide,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.
“Heading into the new year, the company will build the foundation to become a major presence in the EV market. The Proton e.MAS 7 has already been previewed to thousands of potential buyers and will have its grand launch in December, with 36 dealers representing the brand. At the same time, work is continuing to offer more value to current Proton owners via OTA updates that improve the user experience in all our intelligent models,” he added.
