Proton Saga to soon make way for a Geely version

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton-Geely partnership is going strong as ever with the X70, 2019 Iriz, and all-new Persona being the most significant examples. Now, both the brands are further working on reviving other models in the Malaysian automaker’s lineup. It was only a while back when we informed you about Proton Exora replacement, the Geely Jia Ji and now, there’s an update surrounding Proton Saga.

The sedan is soon going to retire, making way for a Geely re-badged car. We are still to figure out the Chinese vehicle that will take Saga’s place in Proton Malaysia lineup. Also, we are yet to get a confirmation from Proton on the same. We hope the Malaysian-born brand soon announce its plans and give us some information on the upcoming cars - on top of our mind is Proton X50, followed by new Exora and Saga as well.

Talking a bit about the car in question, the Saga was launched by Proton some 3 to 4 years back and is still considered as a reliable sedan option. Making it an attractive proposition is its ultra-affordable price tag of RM 35,568 - RM 44,342.25.

Proton offers the Saga in three trim options - Standard, Premium, and Executive. Powering the sedan is the tried and tested 1.3-litre VVT mill that churns out a maximum power of 94 hp along with a peak torque of 120 Nm. The engine is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the standard variant, while the rest get a CVT unit. When driven diligently, the car delivers an excellent fuel economy of 18.54 kmpl and even comes with an ECO Drive Assist indicator.

The cabin comes with two-rear USB charging ports and ten-cubbyholes. The rear seat can be folded down to provide a luggage capacity of 420-litre. The car’s safety kit comprises of two SRS airbags, ISOFIX points, and ABS with EBD.

We now eagerly wait for Proton to introduce the brand new Saga with Geely’s design, tech, and mechanical inputs.
