Proton Saga is now available in Pakistan
KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Proton took some significant steps towards its export sales that included the beginning of CKD operations in Kenya, and the Proton X70 launch in Pakistan. This increased the company’s annual exports by 50%. So, now for the current year, the Malaysian automaker is geared up to achieve a target of doubling export volume over 2020 in view of the assumption that export activities were restricted in 2020 due to the health crisis. To achieve that milestone, Proton has selected its three star models - Proton Saga, Proton X70, and Proton X50.
As a part of the plan, the company today launched the Saga sedan in Pakistan that is on offer in five variants. The price starts at PKR 1,975,000 (RM 53,380) for the Saga Standard MT and goes all the way to PKR 2,225,000 (RM 60,137) for the Ace AT. Included in the price is a five-year/150,000-km manufacturer’s warranty. Al-Haj Automotive is the official authorised distributor and assembler of Proton cars in Pakistan.
In terms of features, the lower variants have halogen headlamps, 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, powered side mirrors with indicators, a standard audio system, two front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, rear parking sensors, and remote trunk release. However, the top-spec Ace AT specs sheet involves premium features like LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, luggage lamp, a small boot spoiler, a seven-inch touchscreen media system, smartphone connectivity, a multi-function steering wheel, N95 cabin filter, electronic stability control, transaction control system, hill hold assist, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors.
Powering the Pakistani-spec Proton Saga is a downsized 1,299-cc naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gasoline mill churning out a maximum power of 96 PS and a peak torque of 120 Nm. The engine can be paired with a four-speed torque converter automatic and a five-speed manual gearbox.
Besides the regular Saga models, the brand is also offering the limited edition Saga R3 in Pakistan, powered by the same 1,332-cc motor as in Malaysia. It is limited to just 100 units in the country.
The Saga R3 specific features comprise an R3 body kit, 15-inch dark alloy wheels, various R3 emblems, leather upholstery, and R3 carpet mats. The R3 manual is priced at PKR 2,175,000 (RM 58,794), while the automatic retails for PKR 2,425,000 (RM 65,552).
