Proton records impressive 1H2023 sales figures
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has ended the first half-year of 2023 with outstanding sales numbers and an increased market share in the Malaysian automotive market. It managed to sell a total of 77,321 units during the first six months of the year, wherein the last month saw total deliveries of 14,351 units (including exports).

Proton sold a total of 77,321 units during the first six months of the year representing a hike of 28.6% over the same period last year.Compared to the same period last year, Proton 1H2023 sales represent a hike of 28.6%. According to the automaker, it outpaces “total sales growth for the industry by more than three times.” With that, the brand’s market share has also risen to 21.3%, i.e., 3.2% more than 1H 2022.

- Proton Saga grabbed the title of the best-selling A-segment sedan last month with 6,111 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 33,325 units
- Proton X50 continued to wear the tags of best-selling B-segment SUV and overall best-selling SUV in Malaysia with 2,449 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 17,562 units
- Proton Persona retook the B-segment sedan category with 2,254 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 12,580 units
- Proton Exora led the C-segment MPV category with 368 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 2,367 units
- Newly-launched Proton X90 has become the best-selling D-segment SUV in Malaysia, with sales of 1,082 units in the last month. The year-to-date figure stood at 1,339 units
- Proton X70 remains the second-best selling C-segment SUV with 1,245 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 6,116 units
- Proton Iriz was in the third spot in the B-segment hatchback category with 842 deliveries. The year-to-date figure stood at 4,032 units
Proton Edar’s Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah said, “Proton’s performance in the first half of 2023 is noteworthy as we achieved our best start to a year since 2012 and are also on track for fifth consecutive year of sales growth. The numbers show demand for our products remains strong despite projections of a reduction in liquidity for consumers, and this is proven by our growth rate.”
“For the second half of the year, Proton is confident we have the products and promotional strategies in place to continue our growth trajectory. We will also execute our plans to update our range, launch our entry into the Malaysian EV market with PRO-NET and further improve the quality of our products via investments announced this year to improve our production capabilities,” he added.
