Porsche Taycan gets a complimentary software update
KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche Taycan will be on the receiving end of a software update, this practice will bring the 2020 model year in line with the latest version - as reported by Autocar. The said update will enhance the car's dynamics, Porsche Communication Management, charging functions, and other Porsche Connect features.
Though it is a software update, owners will be required to send their car to an authorised dealership. An over-the-air update is not an option. According to Taycan's product chief Robert Meier, there are certain safety reasons involved in the decision. He said, “We have changes on control units that are safety-relevant – for example, the power electronics of the engine – and we want to be absolutely sure that this update goes through in a completely safe way. And that when we give the car back to the customer we want to be sure that it’s completely bug-free.”
Let's get to know the update in detail -
Porsche Taycan Turbo S trim update involves improved wheel slip control & acceleration and optimised chassis control. All this enables the car to touch the 200 kmph mark quicker, almost by 0.2 seconds. A new Smartlift function has also been introduced in models with adaptive air suspension. What does it do? Well, the system analyzes the frequently travelled routes and raises the car's ride height automatically avoiding the speed bumps.
The software update also brings in improved satellite navigation that offers better online traffic information. Further, car owners can now download iPhone applications in the Porsche Communication Management.
The update is not just limited to performance and tech, but it goes further improving the car's charging system. Post update, the car owners will receive a notification on the app when the battery level reaches a certain level.
A new battery-saving function has also been introduced that limits the charging speed from 270 kW to 200 kW, preventing excessive heat buildup in the battery cells.
These were all the updates that'll bring the previous Taycan models inline with the latest version. What are your thoughts? Do let us know in the comment section.
