Perodua reveals 1H 2023 sales and production numbers; on track to meet yearly targets
KUALA LUMPUR: At the start of the year, Perodua mentioned its target of producing 330,000 units and selling 314,000 units in 2023. Now that the first half of the year is over, it’s time to see whether the company is on track to meet its goals. And the answer is yes; the company’s official press release says that it is on track to meet its yearly production and sales targets.

Speaking about Perodua 1H 2023 sales, the brand managed to deliver 144,690 cars during the period, with a significant growth of 13.6% compared to 127,343 units delivered in the first half of 2022. In terms of the quarter, it sold a total of 66,126 units, with an increase of 0.6% over 65,719 units sold in the second quarter last year.
The credit for the better production and sales performances goes to the better supply of parts and improved production efficiency, says Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer.

Other key achievements being -
- The tact time (the time it takes to produce a vehicle) has been reduced from 1.35 minutes to 1.25 minutes at the Perodua Global Manufacturing plant
- The production performance met PENJANA's obligations
- The ready stock of 2500 units of the recently-launched Axia E was completely distributed within 48 hours
“Looking ahead, we expect both production and sales to continue their uptrend as demand for our vehicles remains healthy,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.
As regards to existing bookings, Dato’ Sri Zainal said while existing bookings were encouraging, there are potential challenges ahead, ranging from potential higher financing costs and intermittent supply shortages. These challenges notwithstanding, we stand firm on our targets, and we thank our valued customers for their support and patience. Our top priority is to continue reducing our customers’ waiting time as well as further improve our service quality.”
“We also thank Bank Negara Malaysia for keeping the overnight policy rate steady at 3% as this would help to ease financing cost of our customers, who consist of lower income earners,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.
