Soon after making its debut in Thailand in June, the EV has become the best-selling electric vehicle in the country with the initial pre-order batch of 500 units booked within 58 minutes. Well, the response of Malaysians toward this cute Chinese EV is yet to be seen.
Today, we will be discussing the interesting features of the Ora EV, which help it sell like hotcakes. So, let’s get started.
Quirky design
Differentiating the Ora EV from thousands of other generic cars hailing from China is its quirky design. It boasts a combination of futuristic and retro-inspired styling cues reminiscent of the Volkswagen Beetle, Fiat 500, and the Porsche 911. The EV does have a connection with Porsche i.e. it is designed by former Porsche designer Emanuel Derta.
The front end looks striking with unique cat-eye-shaped headlights, which come with a smart LED headlight system, an automatic light on-off system, and circular daytime running lights. At the same time, the rear gives all the futuristic vibes with LED tail light strips stretching from left to right, ready to mesmerize all eyes. Towards the sides, we can see the sleek 18-inch alloy wheels exuding a retro vibe. Also part of the exterior kit is a spoiler and a shark fin antenna.
The combination of retro and modern aesthetics carries through the cabin as well. The Ora designers merged the chrome controls, clean surfaces, physical toggle switches, and two-tone pastel upholstery with futuristic displays.
Interactive dual-screen
As mentioned above, the EV is kitted with a dual-display panel found on modern-day premium cars. It comprises a 7.0-inch driver’s instrument panel displaying all driving-related information clearly and a 10.25-inch touchscreen audio system, which supports various entertainment and operation via voice commands. The system also supports Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates.
Rotary electric gear
At the centre console of the EV, we can see a rotary electric gear, which is not too common, yet one of the most fascinating forms of the gear shift available on premium cars. One can conveniently shift the gears by just rotating the dial.
6-way electric adjustable seats with Welcome seat system
The EV offers 6-way power adjustability for the driver seat and 4-way for the front passenger seat along with an electric massage system and ventilation system offering pleasure for every journey.
Also on offer is a Welcome seat system which is linked to a camera mounted on the car’s A-pillar with facial recognition capability. It identifies who is going to sit in the driver’s seat and adjusts the seat levels automatically as per the saved settings
Intelligent parking assistance system
While the upcoming Chinese EV is loaded with several advanced-driver advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking system, and 360-degree surround view camera. The one which we find the most impressive is the intelligent parking assistance system. It detects objects and markings in the parking lots, calculates the area and helps the car to park automatically, covering up to 3 different parking patterns. These include parallel parking, angle parking, and perpendicular parking.
So, those were the five interesting features of the upcoming Ora Good Cat EV. It will be offered in four variants in Malaysia - Tech, Pro, Ultra, and Ultra G with an estimated price range of RM14X,XXX - RM16X,XXX. All variants will come powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 143 PS of maximum power and 210 Nm of peak torque. Two battery options to be offered are - 47.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate and 63.1 kWh ternary lithium offering a range of up to 400 km and 500 km, respectively.
